what formats of video does the xbox support for video playback if i link my 360 with my PC? is it really worth buying windows MCE and loading a whole new OS on my pc for the video playback feature that the 360 is capable of? or am i just better off getting a video card for my pc and running a S-video cable to my TV and getting a wireless keyboard and mouse and calling it a day? just curious on some feedback and opinions on advantages/disadvantages. I mostly download movies from torrent sites so im using xvid/avi movie files and always use VLC media player on my pc to watch.b

I'm just trying to evaluate the same thing. I've tested the video transfer from XP to 360 and its just fine. I'm not so sure about the user interface as it only has a big list of all the movies. Thinking ahead if I had 50 movies it might be a pain navigating to the one I want.

The only way I would get media centre is if it could play video formats other than WMV. Does anyone know if this is possible? DivX is my prefered format.

With transcode 360 from here Runtime360 you can play any files thats what i use i love it.

thanks, I'm now trying that but I have encountered a problem. I'm using WMP11 and have shared my folders wit associated files to the 360. The 360 can successfully connect to the PC but it says it cant find any files. I have had this problem a few times and it just seems to fix iteslf. Has anyone else seen this problem? I can's see pictures/mp3's or wmv's. Arg this is really budding me please help!!!!!

im thinking of getting a 360 to mainly use as a media pc. It would be on the same network as my PC which i would put MCE on. Or I could just hook up a seperate computer to my tv, but S-video has issues so I would need to get a dvi-hdmi cable, and the PC would require buying a video card. So Im not sure if i should go the pc route and buy the video card and some cables, or go the 360 route..
