hey all

Im trying to back up a few of my dvd's. But the total size of the files is too big for the DVD-RW's i have.

Does anyone tell me the name of any software that can compress the size of the files? Or somehow reduces the size of the files but still in DVD format

Here are 2 different guides using 2 different programs.

those are all real good programs but i like clone dvd and dvd4free if you just want only the mivie and not the extras
plus theres no decrypting involved you put the movie in and burn bam your done

well...... if you want to get a little bit into it..... I would never use DVD43! It's just not worth the hassle of when it wants to work and when it causes problems for the computer. I personally experienced DVD43 as it conflicted with my system and I had to do an uninstall to get my computer running correctly because of it....... I also know of many members that have problems with it..... I also heard of members liking the program.... it's just not to stable for me to use. Use AnyDVD + Clone DVD .... those are very stable programs and most members swear by them...... here is a good site for any Newbie:

welcome to AfterDawn....... and some other newbie advice:

1. use good media will stop many problems you might run into. Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Maxell, Sony..... look for the ones Made In Japan. the exception to this rule is Verbatim.
2. burn at half the rated speed of your media (if the disk is an 8x media speed then burn at 4x). This will stop reading errors from your player.
3. Don't burn too close to the edge of the media. 4484MB is the max and on good media you can go as close as 4400.... to be sure I only go up to 4384MB just in case and I use Taiyo Yuden where I know my buddies go up to 4400 without any problems.
4. keep your firmware up do date..... this will make your writer recognize all the disks and burning speeds and other improvements with the software of your drive.
5. keep the source disk free of finger prints, dust or scratches. this will prevent a lot of reading errors that could/will make your drive slip into PIO mode which will slow your system down...... if that ever happens, you need to reset your drive to turn your DMA on... here's how: http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm/231/dmaissues

all you have to do is close dvd4free before you put your dvd in then open it besides knowone ever watches the extras and if they want to use the dvd they backed up

What makes you think no one ever watches the extras?

I watch them and I also back them up.

Plus I have also heard allot of members that have problems with DVD43 and would recommend to stay away from it. Even tho I have never used the program I have seen members that are very reputable on this site say that it conflicts with other programs.

The most recommended riping software that are free are DVDFab or RipIT4Me software. So if they are recommended often then it must mean the programs are doing something right. (I myself still use the trusty old DVD Decrypter with AnyDVD if it needs some extra help)

well theres also alot of ppl who could care less about watching the extras and they might want to know a fast and easy way to burn a dvd and useing dvd4free is just that way it takes 10 mins. where dvdfab DVD Decrypter takes over 30 mins.

As to DVD43 being easy to use. I guess that depends on who is using it. I would rather have a program that takes 20 to 30 minutes to rip and rip fine every time and mot conflict with my other programs. Vs a program that conflicts (Have seen multiple post of this being the case) and making you do little tricks to have the program work(Closing the program out then playing the DVD with your Player to unlock the disc then run DVD43 again)

Plus you said you use CloneDVD with DVD43. Why not even be more simple and pay a few extra dollars and get both AnyDVD and CloneDVD and make it even more simple. $47.50 bundled where it is $39 for just 1 of the programs.

Dude I would have put the whole Quote up if it made any sense.

The above member (jimbo92) asked for a program that will compress a DVD9 disc onto a DVD5 disc. I gave him guides to look at that explains how to do it.

You suggested using a program that has a history of causing problems with allot of members. So IHoe has pointed that out and I have backed him up on what he said.

I am sure anyone would agree that that makes no sens at all and you need to clarify what you are saying a little better. Plus it has nothing to do with the fact that allot of members have had DVD43 conflict with their system.

In any case jimbo92 has received some advice and can choose to follow which ever advice he chooses.
