ok my problem is it keeps on saying error connecting. I have the faplink server 8.7.1 on my memory card using an exploit, i cloick on the elf file it loads and is wavy so i click x and it says checking ip and stuff and hdl partition and then says ready, ok. Well then i start the faplink program on the computer and i click connect and it says error connecting. The ip adress for the ps2 matches 192.168.0.10. I even went as far as to change my ip address. By the way im on a laptop using wireless internet so i have taken a cat-5 cable and connected it to my ethernet port and then to the ehternet port in my ps2. I looked online saying i should change my lan settings ip adress. It says network cable unplugged for the local areas network. and the way i am connected to the internet is Wireless Network Connection. so i tried to change that ip adress and the fap link program still says error connecting. Im not understanding this. ANY help would be appreciatied. I do not get what im doing wrong.

make sure that the IPCONFIG.DAT points toward your Computer IP.
-------------------------------------
192.168.0.10 255.0.0.0 ->192.168.0.1<-edit this to point to you PC IP
-------------------------------------

This might make it work(I had the same thing, but I am using cat5 cables instead of wirless)

The IPCONFIG.DAT goes along with the .elf file on the memory card.
and to find out what your IP address is

(1) click on the windows [start] button. http://www.geocities.com/c2k60004/music-2/1.bmp

(2) click on [Run...].
http://www.geocities.com/c2k60004/music-2/2.bmp

(3) type in cmd.
http://www.geocities.com/c2k60004/music-2/3.bmp

(4) type in ipconfig.
http://www.geocities.com/c2k60004/music-2/4.bmp

this what mine looks like
http://www.geocities.com/c2k60004/music-2/5.bmp
(the Default Gateway is my brothers server)

(5) edit ipconfig.dat that goes with the elf file to point toward your computer's IP address that has the faplink (pc app) running on it(make the ipconfig.dat(ps2's gateway) points to your computer).

My PS2's gateway points to my computer, and my computer's gateway points to my brother's server(thats how my pc gets the net). But make sure that the PS2's gateway points toward your computer, and if that doesn't work, try pointing it toward your wireless connection system(router/what ever) using the wireless devices IP adress( the wireless devices IP address will be displayed as your PC's gateway).

So basically I should try to edit the ipconfig.dat and somehow put that on my memory card and make sure that in the ipconfig.dat it has my computers ip address and my ps2 has a GM of the same address. The ps2 gm is 255.255.0 and idont know how to change that and my computer does not have a GM. If you can somehow give me a very good guide that would work better, because im not getting it. Or maybe you could give me a guide

You have to create a IPCONFIG.DAT if you don't already don't have one. In order to creat one follow this and just do in text editor and save as IPCONFIG.DAT .

Mine is
----------------------------------------------------
(A)192.168.0.186 (B)255.255.255.0 (C)192.168.0.201 -
----------------------------------------------------
Don't put the ABC's in it
(A)PS2's IP
(B)Subnet
(C)Gateway (my PC's IP)
--------------------------------------------

If that doesn't work, Try burning it to a CD and launching it using the exploit( it it can launch elfs of a cd(you will have to take out the boot disc(PS1, what ever disc you use to boot the hack) and put in the CD(use CDGENPS2 to make a PS2 ISO(easier). Once you launch the Faplink on your PS2, launch the PC App side and see if you can connect (make sure that you are entering the correct IP that the PS2 is using in the Faplink program.
There is also a possibility that you don't have your PS2's IP registered with your Computer( if the IP isn't registered, your computer could be refusing the connection. I had to give my PS2's IP address to my Brother in order to get it to register with his server so I could connect it to my PC.(in other words, his server didn't allow it to connect to my computer or any computer because it wasn't registered as a user machine( The server though it was a hacker and wouldn't allow any connections at all between them.
for registering you PS2's IP address with your computer, I have no clue on how to do that. You might want to find someone that knows how to do it.

Here from the readme.txt
-----------------------------------------------------
If you need to change this for your network, make an
IPCONFIG.DAT file in the same format as ps2link uses
and make a folder called "FAPLINK" on your memory card,
then place the config file there.
------------------------------------------------------
so yeah, put it in a folder called FAPLINK in section of MC:0
