I've tried two games: Incredible Hulk - Ultimate Destruction and Gradius 5. Both were labeled as being NTSC and reported to work as far as torrentspy's user comments said. I buy burnt PS2 games all the time from a flea market and they work just fine but for some reason every game I try to burn off my computer just doesn't work.

I use HP DVD-R's which burn at up to 16X. I burn them at 1X using DVD Decrypter but I've also tried to use Nero to burn them, neither work. They both either lead me to the screen which lets me select the browser or to the red screen telling me it isn't a valid PS2 disc. I'm not sure which version of the mod chip I have but my PS2 is a few years old.

My computer runs at a decent speed and I have no problem burning most games but for some reason the PS2 just won't read the discs. I've also tried Maxell DVDs and they didn't work when I burnt the games either.

The only things I can think of is that it could be my DVD burner itself, otherwise I'm out of ideas.

A feew things.
1. get better quality DVD's. Not just any old DVD will work. They should be good quality. (Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Philips, Sony)
2. Do not get 16X next time get some 8X DVD-R. But when using 16X you will most likely have to burn at a faster speed than 1X. Start out with 4X, then try 6X and possibly even 8X
3. Look on the internet to see if you have the latest firmware for your burner. http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php
you will have to go into your buners properties to find the exact model number and which firmware you have now. If you have had it over a year and have never updated then there may be a newer one.
This will help with burn quality and media compatibilit

So is HP media not the greatest for burning PS2 games?
Does it really matter that it's 16X media if I don't burn it at that speed?

I'm going to try burning a copy of a friends game by copying it to my computer and then burning that ISO and see if that works. If it does then chances are you're right about the fake images (although I can't see that being the problem considering a number of comments were made saying they worked).

I'll try burning a copy of a game, if that doesn't work then I'll update my firmware and burn it again, if that doesn't work then I'll try a new DVD brand, likely Sony. If that doesn't work then I'll try a new DVD burner alltogether.

Thanks for the tips, I'll keep you posted on the results.

Ok
People suggest better media because most store brands or cheap manufacturers use dye on the DVD that is not that good, and will not last long.
This cause the PS2 laser to work harder when it reads them and could cause it to wear out sooner. PLus cheap dye wears out over time and 6 months to a year from now the game may no longer work.

It is not the cost that matters but the quality of the manufacturer and they type of dye they use. Online stores like Supermediastore.com will have good quality DVD's for the same price if not less then you will pay in retail stores.

The reason i mention the 16X discs is because i have read so many posts where people have had problems with them. It will mostly be because your burner doesn't do well with them, not that the PS2 has a problem. My old Sony burner did a bad job and they rarely worked, my new BenQ brner has no problem and they work fine burned at 4X
