MY PROBLEM:
I want to transfer PS2 game files to and from my memmory cards and PC (I don't need cheats). I purchased an AR Max Evo to do it. It's a CD (blue bottomed disk), wich apparently my PS2 will not read (Disk Read Error). So I set out to burn a copy of the AR Max Software to DVD, which my PS2 will read. While trying to follow a tutorial for burning CD to DVD for PS2 games, I encountered the following statement at another site:

Quote:

That won't work, dude. Anything you burn a copy of, whether you downloaded it or copied it yourself is a BACKUP DISC. And if your PS2 could play backup discs, there wouldn't be a lot of point in exploiting it. DUH!!

I'm positive, there is no such thing as a magical patch or crack to let a backup disc run in an unmodified or unexploited PS2. While we're on the subject, there is no magic laser replacement or cover replacement that will allow you to play backup discs either. Everything requires a mod chip, swap disc, or exploit. Honestly...
IS THIS TRUE!
Is there no way for me to make a DVD copy of my AR Max software, and therefore use the program? If there is a way to make a DVD backup of AR Max and use it in my PS2, will this tutorial work? It's what I was trying to do.

My PS2 is about 3 years old, it's a PSCH 39001/N, version 6, and is not modded. I only one one PS2 game, the NCAA football series for the past 5 years, so I have no need to mod it. I don't own Swap Magic, since I don't want to shell out any more money than the 45$ I may have already wasted on AR Max Evo. I would rather not send my PS2 off to SONY to fix it, since I can't see me needing to use other CD programs on my PS2. I just need to able to make AR Max Evo work. In fact, I would throw my blasted PS2 out the window if they would make the NCAA football game for the PC! I hate SONY.

Disclaimer for people who will say "Look it up"
Just so everyone who read this knows, I have read countless threads, and done searches for information on using AR Max and PS2 exploits. I have read tutorials. I have tried to use some. I have gotten lost in the never ending jargon and number of applications needed. My desktop screen is now full with all the programs I have downloaded this past weekend, mostly from reading your posts and following tutorials linked from here. I spent most of my weekend at this site and others trying to get my problem sovled. I made this thread because I feel it's a specific question not adressed in the threads I read. Long story short: I have put in the time and work, what I lack is understanding, skill, and apparently a good PS2. Please help me.

look it up!, LOL

yes, to play any back up disc, in other words a disc that you burned with your burner, you need to have a modded system.
This only holds true with games and programs like AR Max or Swap Magic.
Burned DVD movies will work just fine on a stock system.

Wait, you just said that you have to have a modded system to use AR Max. Are you sure? They don't say that on the box it came in, and none of the other threads seem to be saying that. If that is true, I want my money back from the AR Max maker.

Even if the AR Max can work with an unmodded system, is there no way to get the program on DVD? If not, does that mean that I can't make the AR Max work, and that there is no way to use my PS2 to tansfer files, unless the PS2 can read a CD type disk? That would mean that I have to send the thing off to SONY to be fixed. I am so pissed.

Why is there no way to transfer files with a DVD type disk boot? Why is AR Max not made on a stock DVD? Hell, why can't I hook up a cross-over cable and transfer files around? I thought the PS2 was easy to hack? [Wooly bangs his head on the PS2]

Thanks for the reply.

You can plau action replay without modchip or any exploits. But if your ps2 dont read the disk then your ps2 have laser problems, and coping the ar disk for the ps2 wont do any good.

So, if my PS2 will play DVD games, but not a CD (in this case the AR Max Evo disk), does anyone think trying to clean the lens by compressed air (or fast dry electrical spray) will help? Or does that probably mean my laser is just not able to read CD's.

Can't you just bring it over to your friends ps2 and use it there? Cleaning with compress air isnt going to do much. Clean it with isopropyl alchol will help.
This will work but risky and really hard to do the cd pot mods. and i wouldnt open up my ps2 just to get game saves.

Thanks for the isopropyl reccomendation, and I appreciate the help and replies.

I only have one friend who has a PS2. I am older (31), and I don't really play games, just a college football game (NCAA Football), since I am addicted to the sport, and it's the only game for it. It's the only reason to even own a PS2 for me. So yeah, I don't have many people to use their PS2, and I don't have a good enough reason to pay for a mod. I would try sending it to SONY and demand a free fix before I would open it up and try to fix it. I have done that before to an older PS2.

I will be doing a lot of file transferring though, so I do need to figure out something. For one, I am involved with a project for editing the game, by editing the saved files. It takes a lot of testing for the programmers to figure out how to manipulate it. I will be moving files back and forth a lot. And, I will require a lot of backup files, which will far exceed a memmory card. As of right now, an 8MB memmory card can only hold 3 of the NCAA game files (Dynasty Files). And on top of that, I will need to be exporting statistics of played games and seasons, to get them in Excel format on a regular basis too.

You can see how I need a simple and reliable file transfer system, and that I can't just use someone else's here and there. I really wish someone could crack the PS2 so that we can just hook up staight to the PC with a USB cable or a cross-over cable. I don't need all the cheats off the other methods anyway, and they are actually quite slow from what I hear (i.e. AR Max).

Thanks a lot for your help vcbc, I wish someone had told me that earlier when I asked about such things in other threads. It would have saved me the money I am out for the AR Max.

I am going to look into those, and for other adapters like them. Thanks again.
