i have tried everything i can but still nothing. i have a modded system that is supposed to support the DVD+R DL it is a matrix infinity with the latest firmware but still nothing, and yes i changed the option in the menu.i put in the disc and nothing no "disc read error" no "not a ps2 compatible disc" nothing.any thoughts

not really, never used them myself.
But if the chip supports dual layer, and your DVD burner supports dual layer, and they are good quality disc.
Then they should work.

As per Steimy's advice. I have the same chip and making a 1:1 back up using DVD Decrypter, I am able to play DL backups without any problems
