Hey everyone -
From my understanding, if you flash your xbox 360 drive to allow you to play backup games, you won't be able to use xbox live. That is the main reason I never did it.. but now, I see people saying that xbox live will work fine. Which is true?
"You can even play on XBox Live without a single problem." - taken from the sticky thread for burning games.
Is there something special you have to do to get xbox live to still work, or it just works no matter what? Even on xbox-scene.com, they have a poll currently asking if you have modded your xbox 360's firmware, and one of the options is: "No, I don't like to mod my consoles/I don't want to loose XBL".
Can somebody please clarify this for me? Thanks.

Sounds good.. now to go about this..
My motherboard is an ASUS A7N8XE-Deluxe board, with a SIL3112 SATA controller on-board.. will this work, or do I need to pick up another PCI SATA card like the SYBA SY-VIA-150 PCI SATA card I hear a lot of people using?

Ah I don't even know yet.. I sold my 360 a month or so ago because I wasn't using it enough, so now I have to pick one up again. Are there any good ways to buy one to insure I get a good drive?

Since you have a SIL3112 chipset, I HIGHLY reccommend a Hitachi drive seeing as this is the 100% compatiable chipset for hitachi drives. No 2 wire trick needed to get into modeB either. Just use SLAX.

are there any ways of finding out if its a hitachi drive before I buy it? it might come down to me buying one in a store, or maybe on ebay.. but I don't want to buy one and find out it has a drive I won't be able to use.

your best bet is to try and buy an older version, for example on ebay like you said, as most newly manufactured consoles, as i understand it, have a different type of drive
YOU win some, YOU lose some, either way I WIN

yeah, I might just try my luck at walmart or taget, and hope I get an earlier mfg. date.. if not ill return it and try another..
does anyone know of a list of which drives are compatabile with diff. SATA controllers? I didn't think the SIL3112 was compatabile with any drives.

I stopped at a local Target today, and checked out the Lot/Team #'s on the 4 xbox's they had in stock. The numbers were 0615 and 0620, both with WZHO team codes. I checked these on 360drives.com, and found that they're both Samsung drives (which I can't flash with my SATA chip to my knowledge). The 0620/WZHO look-up says it was manufactured on 05-19-2006, and has the MS28 firmware. The 0615/WZHO look-up says it was manufactured on 04-13-2006, but says N/A for the firmware.
So based on this, which would be the better one to buy?
Since I'm pretty sure my SATA chip won't work for the Samsung drive, I'll just have to buy a PCI SATA card.. Suggestions for one that is in-stock, if that's what I'll need to get?
