Ok I use to have the fat PS2. It played DVD+R's fine but now that I have the slim PS2, DVD+R's are freezing constantly.

Are the -R's really better for the slim ones?

Did you try booktyping the +Rs to DVD-ROM. That often makes them more readable than -R. My slim PS2 played booktyped +Rs just fine.

you can't go wrong with RiDATA(Ritek) DVD-R, i haven't had a bad burn with these media yet, and they last a long time too.

What do you mean by booktyping? How do I go about doing this?

only some burners can booktype a DVD, so if yours can't then i suggest switching to a good quality 8X DVD-R like
Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Philips

But here is how you can check.
Open DVD Decrypter or IMGburn (if you do not have them, get them)
in the spot where you tell it the destination for where you are burning the ISO there will be either a folder icon (DVD Decrypter)
or a book like icon (IMGburn)
you click on that, it will show you some burner manufacturers and under those will be the option of booktyping
