Ok, having a DMA issue big time.

Ill try and make this long story short.

Everything had been working fine up till a month ago.

I use DVDShrink with Ahead Nero Express 5.5.10
Along side I use DVD Region + CSS for decrypt debugging

I once had Nero 5 running and I uninstalled it using the Nero Uninstaller Tool. It gave me the option of removing everything that had to do with Nero. I said yes to all.

Soon as I uninstalled all Nero words, and Nero apps, this is when I started having the DMA problems.

SO....

I uninstalled DVDShrink, Nero, and DVDRegion
Reinstalled DVDShrink, Nero Express 5.5.10, and DVDRegion

Everything seemed to work fine for about 2 months, then I started experiencing very slow burns. Like 40 mins - 4 hour waits for ONE dvd to copy and burn.

So I did some research, and read up on checking your dma settings in Device manager.

So I did. Both the primary and secondary IDE controllers were set to Dma if available.

(keep note, that in device manager, they never went to PIO mode)

So I uninstalled the Primary and Secondary devices and restarted the computer

They were found, reinstalled, checked settings, both set to DMA if available.

Went to relaunch DVDShrink and same thing. I now dont even get a chance to even burn ONE dvd anymore before it starts to slow down again.

Before it would work up to 3 dvd burns, then after the third dvd, it would poop out and start running slow again.

So Im up for suggestions.....

Well, I restarted my computer and tried again to burn a simply dvd I have and now its like DVDShrink wont even try and burn.

Soon as I click backup in DVDShrink the program freezes and 5 minutes later it comes up saying its going to take 4 hours for the backup to complete instead of the usual 22 mins.

WTF

Well your transfer mode is set to DMA.

Could possibly be software/addware (run a scan for it to see)

Could also be a virus (run a scan for that as well)

Have you installed a new software lately? (Could have program conflicts)

Well I do have Adaware 6 Pro, but never had a problem with it back when my DMA did work.

If you still suggest I uninstall Adaware, I will

Far as AVP programs, I run Kaspersky Anti Virus 6.0, but recently hasnt found any viruses.

Any other suggestions or programs I should get and run to check for possible defects, viruses, or such like search and destroy, or Hijack?

This is a double Post. Opened In the shrink forum.

I beleive Roxio and Nero do conflict. I would remove Roxio and just use Nero.

Yah, sorry. I wasnt sure which area this would fall under. Whether it would be mostly a burning issue, or a DVDShrink using DMA issue. *shrugs*

Sorry for the double post.

Well I had these both on my computer in the past when it was working fine, but Ill try that and was also thinking that instead of using Nero Express, Ill reinstall Nero Burning Rom instead and see if that does it.

If I remember right, its the packet writing sections of both programs that don't get along together. IN CD and DRAG TO DISC should not be installed on the same PC. The packet writing software tries to control the burner drive. Many members suggest removing all packet writing software from both Nero and Roxio. Can't be sure if this is your problem but this may help. I at one time ran both Roxio and Nero on the same PC but without installing IN CD and DRAG TO DISC and had no conflict between them. Now I just use Nero 6 Ultra.

It is recommended as stated above not to run both Nero or Roxio together because it does conflict in some cases.

As to your Adware program -- I did not say to uninstall addware scan programs. I said maybe addware or spyware was installed on your computer and to get a program to scan for them to get rid of them.

Well......

I uninstalled Roxio and uninstalled Nero from the pc, and ran the Nero Cleaning Tool as well.

Reinstalled JUST Nero Express 6 and same problems....

Now when I go into DVDShrink, USUALLY under the burning sectin, once the dvd has been analyzed and ready to backup, it usually will state what the burning software is as the result, but its grayed out.

In the past, it would not be grayed out when it was working. It would indicate Nero, the dvd-rom drive and drive speed.

Now its just grayed out....

*shrugs*

Im going to try to uninstall EVERYTHING, including the IDE drives, the dvd-rom drive, Nero, DVDShrink and DVDREgion and try reinstalling everything one by one and see what happens.

If it still does the same thing, then I dont know what to do...

I think I may have solved the issue, and if so, its a Nero issue

Ok, when I uninstalled Nero Express 2 Vision, Nero Burning Rom 5, and Nero Express Suite 8 (I didnt have all of each installed on the pc at the same time. Tried different versions to see other results)......

...I went back to the original Nero version that I installed with this pc, which is called Nero Burning Rom 7 Ultra Edition DVD

Well, NOW....when I reinstalled DVDShrink and DVDRegion, Nero is present and NOT grayed out anymore in DVDShrink and DVDRegion comes up stating that DMA is currently online and enabled, which I didnt get before.

POSSIBLE Nero ISSUE? Maybe, or maybe these other versions I specified above DO NOT support DMA or have problems USING DMA?

I dont know, but Im now backing up one of my dvd Disney movies to see what happens. So far its backing up and about to burn to DVD-R. Ill let you know the results in about 25 mins.
