I have a hitachi drive and I've been noticing lately that I have lots of trouble playing some of the newer games on backup. Currently Gears of War boots fine but Tony Hawk Project 8 won't play. Get open Tray/ unreadable disc errors. I even had trouble with CoD3 NTSC(my friends samsung played it fine but mine wouldn't boot it) until I got the PAL version (which is region free and boots fine on mine). Anyone heard anything like this? I have the latest firmware and I'm just out of ideas.

it depends on which firmware you used

if you used a us NTSC firmware it will play NTSC us titles just fine

but if you used a hacked or modified PAL NTSC combo you may have trouble

How do I know which one I used? I installed the 2.3 rev 2 firmware but don't think I saw an option for NTSC or PAL one at all.

Where did you get your info from?? Somebody's misinformed you. There's no such thing as firmware which is dependent on what region (pal/ntsc) the 360's from.

So if there isn't such a thing as NTSC/PAL firmware does anyone else have any ideas? I can play Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Gears of War but NTSC CoD3 and Tony Hawk Project 8 won't play at all still.

What media did you burn with?
What burner do you have?
Have you updated the firmware for your burner?
What program and speed did you use to burn?

Media: Memorex
Burner: Pioneer I think 1.23 is the firmware, thats just off the top of my head.
Tried burning with both CloneCD and ImgBurn.

I'm trying to find a verbatim I should have and burn it again but till then all I have it Memorex and I have other Memorex's that play just fine.

I have been reading about the 360 playing back-ups. I want the PS2 swap disk system. What so I need to get my 360 to play back-ups? I know that I need:

Dual layer disk. does it matter if it is -r or +R ?

and Do I need a Mod chip or can I get a swap disk (like the PS2)to get it to work.

Thanks

@ Klindel... Update the burners firmware. It offers more media and better burning support. I believe the Hitachis can be a little more picky than the Samsungs. Just Google 111d firmware. The latest is 1.29 . And stick with CCD for the time being. It's known to work. Img can be iffy sometimes.

@ jefe2119... no swapping discs. You need +r dl's. You could put a mod chip in the dvd drive but flashing the firmware is the most popular method.
