Is it safe for me to get the update? I just got Gears of War, Viva Piniata and Call of Duty 3. I just don't want it to die or not read the games after I update.
Can someone verify that its okay for me to get the update?
My firmware is a modified version of the 1.3 Xtreme firmware. The modder and is partner - a programmer - modded it for some special needs.

I'm not worried about the ban so much, but haven't a lot of people been having problems with the 360 reading newer games after getting the latest update.
My drive is a Hitachi by the way, got it a day after the launch here in AUstralia.

Are you talking about the dashboard update or the latest firmware? The latest firmware is a good thing. The dashboard update stop retail copes new games (at least Gears or War and Tiger Woods 07) from working on Hitachis flashed with older firmware. Back ups will work regardless of how old the firmware is.

Well, mines a Hitachi, and its version 1.3, so yeah, it's old. But I don't know if I want to risk trying to update it myself. The guy who done it said it was a modified version of the 1.3 Xtreme Firmware.
So, if I go and do the Xbox Live update, it won't read Gears of War when I get it, but it will if I don't update?

I don't think your retail copy of GoW will work unless you update the firmware. It doesn't even matter if you have the fall dashboard update.

oh...uh, that Gears of War copy, it's not retail. Does that mean it will work without a problem with my 1.3 firmware, but it might not if it was a retail version of Gears of War?

Yes the back up copy will work regardless. Go ahead and update. The problem with the newer games is they are putting sercurity sector info in different places. However, that doesn't matter with backups because the ss info as already been injected into the backup so that any hacked firmware can read it.

Awesome. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I'll go update now.
One more thing: if a ban does come, do you think it will be in the form of an update like the latest one, or will they just update their servers one day and no one will know? Is there a chance that the latest update does have a ban included, but they haven't activated it yet or something?
lol...Yeah, I know I'm just looking into it too much.

I don't think bans are ever coming. They've had plenty of time ban and nothing. It's been over 7 months now of people playing back ups. I'm not worried about a ban at all, but techincally you never what may happen.

Yeah, that's what I'm starting to think too. I heard that there were - and still are - people using Live on the original Xbox by using the firmware hacks.
I suppose they'd be more interested in countering actual chips anyway.
Gonna update now. Thanks for the help.
