Ok bro, I can try and help ya here.
You first need to open the 360 to determine which Hitachi drive you have. Doing this voids the warrenty of the 360 because under the faceplate you'll see a silver Microsoft security sticker. When you open the console, this most of the time either rips or pulls off. If you can manage to get this sticker off without leaving any of it on the console then maybe they'll still honor the warrenty. You can try by using a hair dryer on the sticker. The glue heats up allowing it to be removed without damage.
If you have a 0078fk drive then I can't help you. Any other version and I can.
PCI SATA card ... what do i do with this, cant i just burn the firmware to a dual layer dvd disk and do it that way, id rather not have to wait on buying stuff as im away with work in 3 days, also, can you give me a link to a site that i can use to open my xbox as the one above is not working for me.
The DVD drive in the 360 is a SATA drive. There is no way to get it into MODEB (which it HAS to be) with a DVD+R DL. You need a PCI SATA card or a motherboard with SATA ports so you can hook your 360 drive to your PC.
Someone else might have another link to open the 360 as the one I gave you is the best and only one I had.
