I just purchased an LG dvd upconvert recorder... main reason for the purchase is to watch dvd movies and be able to record tv shows... model number is the DR1F9H.

so playback is awsome, no complaints. the problem is with recording TV shows... first is it legal to do so? Specifically cable channels like the national geographic or HBO? I am currently using a cable card which is plugged into my plazma tv reciever. The only other component that I have is a bose entertainment system that I use for movie sound. my current connection from the dvd recorder to the tv reciever is through an hdmi cable.

I tried recording but the only channels that I was able to record is the basic channels like 2- 26 the dvd rcorder only allows you to toggle through 125 channels but when I did an automatic channel scan, the only channels that appeared is 2-26. when I attempted to record even channel 122 it comed out like snow on playback. can anyone help. I called LG and they say that I need to have a cable box. is this true. thanks again.
