well you dont use your pc and ps3 at the same time do you? its easily transfered when you get this adapter. just plug it in the usb port of your ps3 when using it, and then into your pc's usb port when you want to use that.

or five dollars more ittl do a mouse and keyboard

But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

ddp, i apologize if i sound like i have "name-called" as you put above. but if you read the entire thread, not even once i did name-call anyone. i simply wanted to help streetz with his frustration, and not confusing him with answers that he doesn't need.

i was just responding to what i thought as incorrect (and i believe i did it quite nicely). i'm sorry if someone misunderstood my good intention and pursued it as an attack to him/her.

i understand that i'm just a "newbie" and you're the moderator. i'm sure you have all the wisdom hence you're a moderator. i fully respect this forum and i have learned a lot from here. if anyone would ever "lose", then it would be me.. :)

Has anyone tried the OS load with the latest version (fedora core 6 ZOD)? I was thinking about following toxicfish's guide, but don't I want to use the latest version out not core 5?

Maybe that version wasn't released yet?

That is where I am stuck. After I did a full format I can no longer install. I am waiting for my new component cables so that I can use my vga box I just purchased.

In my spare time I have begun working on a linux workstation using an old 133mhz processor and 64mb or ram. I'm just learning the ins and outs of linux right now. I will come back and show my findings, it is just taking a while.

I'm assuming that you are using a regular SDTV right... Yellowdog will not work because when it boots it requires a TV capable of 720(p/i?). This was mentioned earlier in this thread. If you are using an HDTV, what is your setup like..?

update: over at thep1ratebay there is a .torrent called Patches to run Linux on th PS3 + IBM Cell BE Engine SDK 2.0. It might be what some ppl are looking for. Let the mods decide if the link to the file is OK or not.

i just found the GooTube video a few mins ago that shows the very things said in this thread. Somebody compiling & running Fedora. Argh...i posted a thread on it. i will be teh banz now :(

I'm dying to hear what ppl are doing with Fedora. It would be so phat to have a full web browser + keyboard running on PS3. If that's the case i'd get rid of my 1 older PC & use that $300-$400 toward a PS3. As nutty as that sounds, having a full computer + gaming system ain't too bad. Consider the possibilities. Web browsing. GIMP. Emulated photoshop. VMware. Virtual servers. Hosting your own web site. Running your business. All from one computer (PS3) & with a fast cpu in the box. Drop any ?s you have to that guy on GooTube. He seems to know his stuff.
Oh one more thing about Linux. Linux won't get you overloaded with viruses, spyware & other crap like Windows does. So you essentially get a full working OS + gaming system with a PS3.

Phew, finally done with the reading.

Hello all, =) thank you for all the wonderful posts, including the argument posts up there. Luckily no one is hurt or banned. =)

So, Fedore 5 PPC? I just went to www.redhat.com and saw they have Fedore 6 PPC. Has anyone tried that one yet?

With all the installation, no one has a stable PS3 with Linux installed. I hope there's a solution soon for everything.

Thank you all. =)

I'm running Fedora Core 6 on my PS3 now. As a matter of fact, I'm typing this using Firefox 1.5.0.7 on my PS3. For pictures and how I installed it, see:
Fedora Core 6 on my 60 Sony PS3

I was using Yellow Dog Linux 5 prior to installing Fedora Core 6. While I think YDL5 was easier and faster to install, TerraSoft's support is limited. The Fedora/Redhat community is alot larger, and its easier to find support, source, or RPMs if you're running Fedora Core 6.

@promethh: So what are you running on Fedora? Gnome? KDE? Konqueror? Videolan VLC? Does anyone have a list of compatible apps yet? The thought of having a Linux PC within the PS3 is kind of cool. Not since Yaroze has Sony actually followed through on their promise of letting anyone use their system as a PC.
PS2 Linux <--anyone remember that? A $600 PS3 with a high end graphics chip & CELL processor can only help them increase their sales.

It's possible that your bash profile isn't setting a path, or that you excluded X11, KDE, or GNOME from your installation. To start with the most basic, please:
cd /usr/bin
ls startx
...do you see a startx there? if so:
startx

Remember that you will have needed to set a ps3videomode before running startx.
ps3videomode -v 131
will change your resolution to 1280x720, 60Hz (720p)

Good luck. Hope that helps.

Ok, so if I don't set the ps3 resolution, it will say that the command is not even found?

Just got my PS3, and I'm having fun with it. One Question regarding Fedora, Can you install games on it using like A Linux crossover program?

@escalante: Yes, as long as the PS3 will support Fedora 100%, you can run any Linux app. Quake 4, Doom III and hundreds of other games have been ported to Linux.

Someone probably already gave this link but here's the neogaf tutorial.

I was digging around the Net & found some pictures of Fedora C5.

I excluded KDE from the installation.
How do I install KDE without reinstalling fedora core 5?
One more thing. I have installed Fedora Core 5 by using this webstie: http://ps3.qj.net/PS3-Linux-The-void-has...pg/49/aid/73144
Should this come with a desktop enviroment?
P.S. I did the full install.

Ok, Listen to this.
When I typed cd/usr/bin it said that is not a directory.
When I typed ps3videomode -v 131 it says that it is not a command.
I have all of the ISO files on my computer and I can see the files inside of it with WinRAR.
So how do I know if I have a desktop enviroment in the first place?
By the way I downloaded my main image from here: http://mirror.linux.duke.edu/pub/fedora/...C-5-ppc-DVD.iso
