Having a bit of issues getting my backup to work, have tried rebuilding, burning it at 2x speed on good media which have worked 100% for me so far but the load times are long and the game play hangs. Have just reopened the ISO and i must have overlooked the 3gig PAD.AST file sitting there lol, using the usual 1kb dummy replacer method, i tried going through the process of using Cd/Dvd gen 2.0 to rebuild it, problem is now it says `too short location length. (less then 600000 sector).

Any ideas on how i can sort this out would be greatly appreciated, was thinking about using Nero to rebuild it, but dont want to waste another disk.

It would be useful if you told the method you used for other gamers with the same problem. So they could read here the solution.

I`m Fairly certain there is a much easier way to sort out the problem with the PAD file, perhaps with Nero but here`s how i got a successful working backup.

Tools you need

Gnie's PS2 Auto Rebuilder ( http://www.alucard.cc/ps2/ExPERT_v1.03.rar )
Dvd Decypter ( Google it )

1: Make a TEMP folder On your hard drive and copy the superman ISO there.

2: open Gnie`s Ps2 Auto Rebuilder, and under `PLUGINS` select = "Shrinker_ps2_psp_cddvd5_iso.epi". Under `BIG FILE` load in the superman.iso from in the folder.

3:Click Extract LBA, wait for it to finish.
Click Extract File, wait for it to finish.

4: Dont do anything else with Gnie`s Auto rebuilder but leave it OPEN, go into the folder you created, where the superman.iso is, there will be another folder inside , explore the folder and all the contents of the superman.iso will be inside which are
<folder>IRX
Slus_214.34
System.cnf
PAD.AST
<folder> Data

. Delete the file `PAD.AST`, and only that file, dont delete ANYTHING else

5: Staying in That folder, create a new `text document`, open the text document and press the space bar `once`, then save as, save it as PAD.AST and exit notepad.

6: Go back into Gnie`s Tool, click `REBUILD FILE` wait for it to finish, then click `REBUILD LBA`....

7: Go into the folder where you put the superman.iso, and you should see another iso there NEW-*******.iso, minus about 3 GIGS of dummy data, will be just over a 1 GIG, burn that image with dvd decryptor, i burned at 2x speed and i`ve had no problems with it on swap magic 3.6

Hope this helps.

Well i've tested the game without rebuild with Swap Magic 3.6 and it works. I also did a rebuild and it worked fine, i think just the same with or without the rebuild. But I'll try your method.

Here's what i did, its more simple:

1º- Extract the content of the .iso into a folder with isobuster;
2º- 5: Staying in That folder, create a new `text document`, open the text document and press the space bar `once`, then save as, save it as PAD.AST and exit notepad. As you've already mentioned;
3º- For burning i used Nero 6 and followed this tutorial:

1º- After extract the content of the .iso with isobuster into a folder, open Nero Burning Rom and create a "New Compilation" "DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO) the next images shows the right way to do it, you should do exactly as the image shows:

2º- When you do "New" you will open the compilation and you should put the files in there.

Clic with the right button of your mouse like the image shows and select "Add Files"

Select the game files and then press "Add" like the image below, here i don't put the files in a specific order, but you can put them in the same order as isobuster.

Now it's time to burn your new compilation:

[center]You can burn the speed at 4X or lower.

3º- Enjoy

- I use this tutorial with the games with no 2GB single file. I've never failed a rebuild and my games always works. Hope this helps.

PS: I think there's no diference from the rebuild i did without replacing PAD.AST.

You mean replacing the PAD.AST? You could just do a normal rebuild instead of that process.

You're not doing it right. The game works without rebuild, people are rebuilding it because of the big loadings. You can do a normal rebuild and the game should work. You can also replace the PAD.AST with another file created by you with 1kbt, in this case the game size will reduce drastically.

When you replace the PAD.AST its for another file with the exactly same name, but smaller, with 1kbt, ok? You followed this tutorial and still you're having problems?

2º- Staying in That folder, create a new `text document`, open the text document and press the space bar `once`, then save as, save it as PAD.AST and exit notepad. As you've already mentioned;

jesus,this is just a simple rebuild
never mess with any file names,always use exactly the same extension
the PAD file is just a padding file which has false lba
its purpose is to make the game run smoother by pushing the data to the edge of the disk,but unfortunetly for those that use SM,its a pain in the jackass
btw,you can always use the little homebrew app thats available which zero bytes any unwanted files
