I have a Core system with a Samsung drive. I burn my games with IMG Burn using either the .dvd file that unpacked with the .iso or I usually create a .dvd file using ss.bin files from the net. Unless I am sure that the file has a security sector in the .iso and then I just use manual layer break and dont worry about it. What im wondering is, recently two of my friends have had their Premium systems modded, they work with the discs of the person that modded the boxes for them, but none of my burned games work on their modded systems... WTF is going on here? Does burning the game a certain way following a certain method yield discs that will play on specific systems? Maybe my brain isnt functioning but I dont see how its possible that they could play in my modded system and not someone elses.

My 1st guess would be they have Hitachi drives which are more picky about what media they will read and how it must be burned. Samsung drives like you have are far more forgiving.

They do have Hitachi drives, your right about that, but I even went out of my way to buy DVD+R DL Verbatim discs with advanced AZO or whatever ultimate compatability label on them. I figured that would do the trick but the discs still dont work. Besides that, the guy who did the mods for my friends (who also did my mod) said he tried both verbatim and cheap memorex media and both worked without problems. So its something with the way that im burning the games, or what process im using thats not working.

I dont ever use CloneCD. For some reason when I try using it it says error finding layerbreak and then the layerbreak code. Could that be something to do with it? When I burn my discs I use IMG Burn with manual layerbreak 1913760 and I use either the .dvd file or the .iso file if i know it has a SS. Is it something to do with me not using clonecd? Is there some way to get clonecd to stop giving me this error?

It could possibly be the burner you are using compared to whatever firmware their Hitachi has. My friend has a Samsung and all my games work with his. I have a Hitachi drive and a Sony DRU-810a burner.

how could it be my burner... why would one burner work with one drive and not with another. this is confusing as hell.

What speed are you burning at?
What burner do you have?
What firmware is on your 360?

Samsungs can read more media and will accept discs burnt from more burners than Hitachis will. You probably need one that's going to let you use Clone CD.

I have 3 DL burners, Sony, Lite-On and a Pioneer in my laptop. I use all 3. For comparisons sake I use the Lite-On the most. I burn @ 2.4x. I have no idea what firmware I have on my 360, but the guy that modded mine and my friends uses whatever the latest firmware version is at the time.

I also have been able to burn one disc that works now on my friends system. I changed some settings around in IMG Burn, before I was just letting it sort the settings out on its own and it worked fine for me. But I set it to Lite-ON and changed the book type to DVD+R DL media with +ROM setting selected.

Still dont understand why the stock IMG burn settings would work for my system but not other ones.

So wait, only certain drives work with CloneCD now?

It's seems that may be the case, but I'm not positive on it. I know someone on my friends list bought the same Lite-on drive as me and I watched the burn fail at the layer break on his Live cam in Clone CD. My drive is 7 months older, but it's still the same model number. Something seems to be going there, but I don't know what exactly.

It's also advised to burn at 4x if you can.

Why would it be advised to burn @ a higher speed than a lower speed... Ive never heard anybody reccomend faster over slower for accuracy.

Trust me. 4x works wonders for 360 games. I wish I had the time to properly answer your question but I've got to get ready to go to work in a few minutes. I have burned EVERY 360 game released in the US at 4x and have had 0 problems.
