PS2 Slim Freeze Problem

I have a ps2 slim 70013 I got off a friend that doesn't work. It will boot to the ps2 congiguration menu and then the screen will freeze (the little balls of light are all in the center in one mass and don't move). My controller doesn't work when plugged into either port. When plugged in I can turn the analogue thing on controller turns on but nothing else works. When I first got it it would try and load ps2 game but I got the disc read error (didn't try to see if a controller worked). The problem started after I took the ps2 apart and checked stuff out. Also if a disc is inserted it will try and read it but the screen never chages. Any ideas? suggestions? Parts that can be replaced?

If the balls are not rotating, its because the time on your ps2 is not set, remove the bios battery and re-insert it, clean all dust out from the system, turn the system on, use another controller, go into the config menu, change the time, and all should be good.
