I have a 360 and a 19" samsung 941bw with the psyclone VGA cable and I have noticed a problem. I was watching serenity on DVD the other day and when it got to the part where Wash gets killed (where the picture is all red lit) the picture is horrible, full of grey and red blotches. Now, I ran the same DVD from my CPU to the Samsung thru VGA and it had no problems...

I also hooked the 360 with vga up to my Sony monitor and the same picture problem happened... where it does not when the movie is run from the computer...

So, had anyone else heard of this? Is it the psyclone vga or is it the Xbox360?

I would like it if anyone has some info on this issue, I have looked for an answer but cannot find one.

Thanks

From everything that I've read, the Xbox360 isn't that good of a progessive scan DVD player. Think about how good Hitachi and Samsung dvd stand alone players are and you'd get my point.

On my regular TV the DVD player worked great, better than my Yamaha DVD player that is worth more than the 360. Im not sure what the problem is, their is a lot of grey in the picture when I watch video... I downloaded the trailer for 300 from Live and it was the same story, on a tv it looks great, on a monitor thru VGA it looks strange.

Like I said, it only happens with the vga cable. When i watch the dvd on a tv with svideo it works fine.

Well the its probably because the dvd playback from the 360 is really poor. This article should pretty much confirm your issues:

I read this elsewhere to in a much larger and more detailed artice but I cant seem to find it. If I do, I will post the link.

Okay, it is NOT the DVD playback from the 360, as it looks killer on my 14 year old 32" CRT mitsubishi TV. I think it has to do with the VGA cable itself. I found this on another site that I think explains it:

"Same here. I wished that those gamers who claim that vga is giving them a clearer, sharper, and more colorful image over component would tell us a little about their monitor or HDTV. For example, i have a 56 inch samsung dlp 1080p. Max resolution is 1920x1080 using pc input(1080p) , and 1080i using component. I bought in the hype of gamers talking about the hd vga cable and without thorough research i went and bought me one. Big mistake. I later found out that the max resolution the cable supports is 1366x768 which is no where near 1920x1080. But i have a gateway notebook with max 1280x800 and a gateway desktop monitor @ 1280x1024. Now i am almost sure those gamers who say that hd vga cable is waaaay better are those with a max resolution 1366x768. I also think some gamers are holding on to the hd vga cable to see if microsoft will be coming with an update patch downloadable via xbox live in order for the cable to support 1920x1080 format. I really think the hd vga cable was meant to be used only on monitors with a max resolution no higher than 1366x768, any larger resolution will result in a not so sharp picture. Finally there is the color saturation, which is poor on hd vga when your HDTV has a higher max resolution than the hd vga cable can support. If you check the specs on the hd vga cable is state the max color is 32 bit which is no where near component video color quality. That is why many of you experience that color washed out effect because the hd vga cable can only channel so many colors. I really wanted the hd vga cable to really work out for me because i had big plans to watch my HD-DVD movies in 1080p using hd dvd drive which i can only achieve with a true hd vga cable connected to the pc input of my HDTV. So now i am waiting for one of two possibilities either microsoft comes out with newer version of hd vga cable that actually supports up to true 1920x1080 or downloadable update patch to make the existing hd vga cable fully functional with my HDTV not just my desktop lcd monitor. So please, those that the hd vga cable is working out for them on a HDTV only, please tell me the key specs on your HDTV. For example 56" samsung dlp 1080p (HL-R5688W) max resolution 1920x1080, etc. Thanks in advance!"

Man. Do I feel better. I figured it out. It was my monitor. I read on a fourm that some monitors require tweaking in the service menu in order to get optimal output from VGA. I did that and turned down the RGB saturation control and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

The colors no longer have the wash-out "grey" problem it had before. Now the colors look much better than before!
