Hi everyone please enliten me.

I have a friend, he is a good friend and might be reading this right now.

He says that haveing multiple browsers such as Firefox IE and Opera can cause conflicts on your PC not in terms of browsing but in terms of Windows performance he says windows xp was desigend for only one browser.
Is this true???
can someone please explain to me.

Because currently I have Opera, Firefox and Internet Explorer (which I dont use) but cant uninstall Internet Explorer because, I guess, it is needed by the OS.

And if this is true what should I do apart from getting rid of my browsers, because I really want to have FF instead of IE.

Ps. He also says that downloading and useing Themes for Firefox or Opera can cause damage to your OS or other programs is this true???

It sounds to me like your friend is trying to be helpful, though over-enthusiastic. Having multiple programs that do the same thing on the system in some cases (depending on the type of program) CAN cause problems. This is not, however, the case with browsers. You could have every windows browser ever installed and not have problems from it. What can cause problems is this: If you install a browser and it replaces system files and programs utilized by other applications on your system, then it can cause those other applications to not function properly. (Basically if browser X installs version 1 of file A, but program Y requires version 2 of file A, then program Y may not work after installing browser X) Also skinning JUST the browser will not cause any problems with your operating system, now when you get into skinning windows completely, that CAN cause problems. Sorry for the longwinded reply.

for the past year i have had ie, Opera, k-meleon, and several versions of Firefox (deer park minefield) all at the same time, never a problem and my pc runs a fast as it ever did.
