You need the MPEG2 codec... anything that can play DVDs should be able to play SVCDs (with the exception of WMP -- that's hit and miss). There are two major DVD players you may wish to look into: PowerDVD and WinDVD

ASUS A8V Deluxe, A64-3500 @ 2.65

I do not have a dvd player on my computer. The files I can view that I know of are mpg, mpeg, and sometimes wmv. I'm totally new at this so I don't even know what those terms stand for.
I don't plan on getting a dvd player, so it's really no big deal if I can't play it. I was just curious if it was possible to play those files without one. Thank you so much for responding to my question!!!

sure it is, all you need is the mpeg-2 codec, installing windvd will install the mpeg-2 codec for you!

I'll tell you what, I'll try PowerDVD too, just to see!! Now that I have WinDVD, I can't find what I was originally looking for to play. I did download something to try it out and it worked. As soon as I find what I was looking for, I will let both of you know which one worked better!! It might take a while though!

I installed PowerDVD yesterday. I was able to watch 1 file, but when I insert a DVD into my computer to watch, it won't let me. It says no disc is in drive D. I tried to change it, but I don't know how or even if I can. Can I use either program to watch dvd's without a dvd player? If I can, I may need your help again because I don't know how to do it. It may be something simple to do, but it's not simple to me.

What version of PowerDVD did you get? (IMO, PowerDVD 4.0 XP was the best)... press CTRL+O and some dropdown menu thingy should popup.... you can use that to select the source for the next movie (i.e., if you have 2 optical drives, select the one with the dvd in it) :)

No I don't. I just have the normal CD-Rom or CD-R drive. I can burn CD's but that's about it I guess!! Looks like I should have got a DVD player installed when I got my computer!! To answer the other question, I downloaded PowerDVD Gold or something like that. I uninstalled it already. I guess I will get a DVD player installed at some point and then I will have no problems! {hopefully}
