Help.DVD Decrypter. can't booktype with sony burner?

I have a nice sony dvd burning works great with dvd/movies

i can't seem to get my PS2 Backups to play.

they will start up and then freze or load very slow.

i read alot of guides and they talk about booktype to DVD-ROM.
the sony brand is not in DVD Decrypter?

I do have Nero 6. not Rom. it will booktype. only thing is i have to do a COPY/COPY, I do have 2 dvd drives. it will do the same thing load slow and won't play. or its just a black screen. I am Using Maxell DVD-R or +R. have try both. i burning at low speed 4x. at my wal-mart/radioshack there are these brands of DVDs -Maxell, Sony, Memorex, TNK?, Imation, Philips, ? what one should i use?

people say that maxell is good?

I really would like to find out what is wrong with what i am doing?

if any one can help that would be great. also. i ahve read anout every guide on here. they did not help with what i am doing?

also- do you have to booktype to DVD-ROM to make them work good?

thank you - RedMatt

players that do not support booktyping/bytesetting are default set at the factory to booktype to -ROM

you're using old burning software for the burn, you should be using ImgBurn (the updated burner of DVD Decrypter) but that shouldn't be the cause of your problems. if your firmware is up to date and you are using a quality media it could well be your lens needs cleaning on either/or/both the burner or the PS2

the simplest i can talk you through finding your firmware revision is to start DVD Decrypter and when you select your burner it should say something in a format like this:

MFG of drive; DVD-RW; Model # of drive; X.xx (firmware version)

the X.xx being what you need to know, then goto the website of the MFG of your burner and check for an updated firmware and follow their instructions for YOUR drive.

EDIT: below is a pic of ImgBurn (same layout as Decrypter) and as you can see my burner is a Pioneer DVR-110D and the firmware is 1.39

KC36330, you know you're using an old firmware on your burner?
v1.41 is the newest for Pioneer DVR-110D.

Quite ironic when you're advising others to make sure their firmware is up to date. lol

RedMatt; Use 8x DVD-R, and burn at 4x. With -R you don't need to worry about booktyping, as they're already DVD-ROM.
Also, Maxell are only good if they use the RITEK dye, which is newer batches of Maxell. Other good brands are RITEK G05, Verbatim or Sony.

Ironical as it may be i do not use this PC for my burning and when it is used it is updated. i never unnecessarily update firmware, it's one of those things that the less often you do it, the better off you are.

EDIT FWIW -Rs are booked to -R not -ROM

ok.

First i want to thank you are for tryin to help me.

I Did an update firmware. my burnung is a nice one.

its a Sony DVD-/+RW DRU-710A BYX5.<--when i did the update this is what it changed. the BYX5.

I did download the new ImgBurn. it looks like a nice tool.

I was using Maxell DVD-R 8x. i try to burn at 2x.

this time with all i have done. this would not work.
the swap magic will say Not a Vaild PS2 Disc.--in blue
I know I did the Slide card thing right. I locked the tray back in. ok. the other games before- this did play. just load slow and freze and stop playing. this all this updates and new burning software. it won't do nothing. i even clean the lens. with a CD lens cleaner disc.

I will go buy some Sony DVDs to see if that would help?
I don't want to give up on this. I have spent so much money on DVDs i could have buy a real new game.- :)
i can not find any Verbatim/dvds in my area like i said before.

If any one can Help me any more that would be Great.
I really want to be able to Backup/burn games.
Thanks -RedMatt

instances like this are what i explain to people who think it's cheaper to go with SwapMagic then buying a top quality chip and having it installed if you can't install it yourself. the frustration and wasted discs because of countless failed burns or rebuilds ends up costing you more in the long run then just getting the chip from the get go.

it's nice to be able to just pop a disc in the console and have it boot and even nicer to turn it on without a disc and have the chip directly boot to the harddrive.

ok.

I understand this.

I don't want to have to work on the inside of the system.
becuase i might break some thing in the system.
i don't know any one is my area that mods for people?
people don't talk about it around here.

the site say the swap magic work.
I want it to work. I can't mod. with a chip.
no one mods around here.
swap magic is all i got to go for.
i read on other forms that it is eazy to burn games.
i am doing what the guides say - DVD Decrypter-ImgBurn- update - firmware.

there gots to be some thing i might be doing wrong. might be some thign small? i don't know. i just want it to work. like people say its so eazy to do?.

any ideas would help. thank you - RedMatt

there are modders all over the world, could be your neighbor is one of them and you'll never find one if you don't ask around. there are countless online modders who will also do it at a reasonable price.

going ahead and using the SM in your case would be best done with the purchase of a flip top case and ditch the slide card, that way you KNOW that you aren't causing the tray to force the console into re-authentication.

i am sure i am doing the slide card the right way.

I went a buy a Maxell High Grade DVD+R. that is what is says on the box. i think they might wotk, yes they cost more $.

I will try them and then see.

also bruning the game do i burn the MDS file or the ISO zip file thing?

thank you - RedMatt

depending on the software you are burning it with, if your software supports the .mds then use it, if not then burn the .iso

the iso shows as a 'zip thingie' because WinRAR has the ability to extract the files from the ISO, do not extract it, load it directly into the burning software and burn it. if you are using ImgBurn just right click the ISO and select 'Burn With ImgBurn'

ok.

I try it with the high grade maxell i buy.
Slow loading, and skiping. ?
the slide crad thing is working. or it would not boot up.
i burn the MDS file? some guides say to do that?
you said the ISO. i will have the try that..
i was using the Imgburn. becuase you said it was good software.
it looks like a nice tool. so far its not helped.
what is the best software to burn ps2 games? free-? some guides say the DVD Decrpyter and imgburn is eazy. what do you use?

I don't know what to do. i am lost. this is starting to upset me. i don't want to give up. i put the money to order this swap magic.
and i can't seem to get it.

you would think that some one could tell me what to do?
if you know of any thing that would help thnak you.
and thank you -kc- for what you have already told me ,i have learned alot.

i use ImgBurn myself, it's the best there is IMO and I've burn thousands of discs a year and never a single coaster from ImgBurn.

on the .mds file, some software does not support the .mds and you'll have to load the .iso the .mds is to an ISO what a .cue is to a .bin file. using ImgBurn, you want to select the .mds file as it supports use of it.
