I was trying to back up the movie WAIST DEEP when I got a program error from DVD Shrink. never seen this before.

Hi.

If you don't have AnyDVD or something like it running in the background, the disk may have copy protection that Shrink cannot overcome. It's also possible the disk is dirty or defective. I'm not familiar with the title so I don't know what protections it might have

Have you tried Ripit4me?
DVDFab Decrypter with either FixVTS or VobBlanker and then Shrink?

I do have AnyDVD. My new problem is that dvdshrink just shuts off when I try to backup the dvd.

Did you rip the DVD to your HDD first and then process the ripped files through Shrink or are you backing up directly from the DVD? If the latter, use DVD Decrypter to rip to your HDD first.
