I have an executer3 /avalaunch system with a Western Digital 160 GB hard drive. I bought it from someone else, so I don't know the history of it. The system was working fine at first. It started to freeze up once in a while, but I restarted it to continue using it. Now it has got to the point where it won't boot up.
If I have it boot to the blue FLASHBIOS 3.03 screen, it says 'UNABLE TO READ HDD FIRST SECTOR GETTING PARTITION TABLE'
If I try to boot it to my MS dash, I get error 07
I can tap on the top of the hard drive (with the cover off) and get it to boot sometimes, but it will freeze up in a few minutes.
I believe it is time to replace the drive. I wanted to ask if it is possible to error check or defrag the hard drive if I installed it on my home PC. Is there anything I can try before I pull it out and throw it in the trash? I have never swapped a drive out of an xbox, but I understand there are tutorials for it. I'll ask those questions later. Is this problem familiar to anyone? I am making a backup of the drive before I do anything to it.
either the platters or the read/write head are sticking, defragging ain't gonna help, get a new drive. if it's less then 3 yrs old, WD will warranty it.
with the Xecuter3 you just pop the new harddrive in, go into Live and it'll do everything from there as far as setting up the drive.
then just FTP your stuff back to it.
I put the new drive in, but I see no way to format it. I can get the bios screen, but there are only options for flashing bios on it. When you say "go into live" what is that?
As usual, these forums helped me out of a jam. I tried to put a new hard drive in and got the same results. I looked a little deeper and found that my chip had shifted to a 45 degree angle to the board and my d0 lead was off. My son must have set the box down a little too hard. All works now, but I'm still not convinced I did the hard drive right. After I formatted the new drive, I copied all of the files over from the old drive, but it did not boot up when I tried to install it. I put the old drive back in for now. I'll try again at a later time. Thanks for the help
with the DO wire off the switch bank lights on the chip should have never lite up......

EDIT: on the harddrive installation, if you used X3 Live to setup the new drive then FTP'd the contents of your C and E drive back to the new one it should of worked perfectly.
