Alright, these questions may have been answered plenty of times, but I'm having a tough time tracking them down via Search. So, here are my questions.
1) Is it possible to, while using an original SwapMagic 3.6, to burn a copy of SwapMagic 3.8 and boot it with SM3.6? I want to know because my DVD-ROM version of SwapMagic is already scratching up a tad.
2) Is it possible to boot a backup copy of Action Replay Max with the original SwapMagic 3.6? Because I have tried it just yesterday, and here's what happened:
I have Action Replay Max Evo on a backup CD-R. I burned it to a disk using Nero Burning Rom. I have a Slimline PS2 as well, btw. Now, I'm having trouble trying to find what order I do things in. I placed the SwapMagic CD in first, swapped it for the ARMax disk, and chose NTSC and booted. When I come to the first screen, I chose Expert Codes, chose my game's cheats, then hit Start and chose to start the game with the codes. Now, when I go to Eject the ARMax disk, it's still spinning in the tray. So, I tried just putting my finger down to stop it and put the SwapMagic DVD in so I could swap for my other burned game.
This is where the trouble's at. The screen freezes at "Launching game..." and I don't know where to go from there.
Anyone have SwapMagic with ARMax that's willing to help me out here? Or is there another cheating device I can use that I can run off a backup? Thank you! :)

Ok, I'm gonna try and help you out...
1) Yes, it is possible if you can create a backup of Swap Magic 3.8 cos when I tried, I kept getting disc read errors.
2) Try this: Swap Magic CD ---> AR Max backup ---> Choose codes and start game with codes. Now press the eject button on the PS2 and put in Swap Magic DVD. Once that loads, swap it for your backup game.

It's because the cheats that are on Coder 3.8 use the old Action Replay codes format. These are totally different to the new codes format found on the MAX version.

So just convert them with "Max Convert 0.71"

I've read that many codes did not "convert" properly and therefore didn't work. Have you come across any?

....I guess you didn't read the thread. I have 3.6, not 3.8. That's why I asked if I could burn the next highest version.
I'm basically just trying to find a way to use Gameshark/Codebreaker/AR/whatever codes on my Playstation 2 without having to buy these programs or a newer version of Swap Magic. :)

That's exactly what I said, if you read my post. I did it exactly like that, but when you go to hit Eject, the disk just keeps spinning like nothing happened. I even waited past the two splash screens after you select the codes and decide to start the game with them. I don't know why it does this. :(

DrZack,
Did you install the Magic Keys that come with SwapMagic? I'm sure you need to take some of the tools out so that when you press Eject, the ARMax disc will stop spinning and you can put in your SwapMagic DVD.
The reason why the screen freezes at "Launching game..." is because you're forced-swapping (ie. while disc is still spinning) your ARMax disc which is a CD for your SwapMagic disc which is a DVD! Try doing it with the SwapMagic CD instead.

You can just update your SM coder with a usb or a memory card. Or the cd-r.
But i say you just use the swap magic 3.6 because coder is a load of crud to be honest.
Best way is 3.6 + Ar.

So, I should go:
Swap Magic CD --> AR Max Backup --> Select Codes --> Remove magic key (or kleenex, in my case) --> replace with Swap Magic DVD --> Hit Start and swap for burned game.
Is that how it works?
Thanks plenty for your help so far, guys. I appreciate it. :)

You cant work an armax backup.
The magic keys are why the disk is still spinning.
The magic keys make the ps2 think the lid is closed.
Where tool a is over the reset button, try holding it down till you finish selecing codes, then insert your swap magic then the game.

Are you saying that perhaps the reason it's still spinning is because the Reset tool isn't really covering it, therefore the disk keeps spinning?

DrZack, you definitely need to remove the Magic Keys to make the PS2 think that the lid is open and therefore stop the disc from spinning. Do you have the CD version of SwapMagic? Try your "hard-swapping" method with that. It should load since they're both CDs.
ps2gen, you can work an ARMax backup. I could boot my "updated-codelist ARMax" on a CD-R.
