hi, firstly i will list what I'm doing:

encoding 8 AVI files, size: 175mb each (a MB either way on certain individual files) to DVD using Nero Vision 4

i have converted these several times using different methods and each time i am getting video/audio sync problems.

so first question is, if i split the files into four equal parts each. will this improve audio/video sync when burned? becks I've heard that after every so often, the audio/video goes out of sync. and cutting the files down reduces how often it goes out of sync

next, what ways are there of improving audio/video sync???

and a Nero question:

this one is me thinking weird and ahead of myself! if i burn the selected files to a hard drive folder in DVD9 mode (so files will be higher quality, possible better sync) then compress the files using DVD Shrink, or similar and burn to a disc? how would that work out?

any help would be the best!!

thanks all

Liam

If you intend to use Nero, then I would recommend you drag and drop each AVI file into NeroVision and allow NVE to convert and burn to DVD9, each AVI file will become larger once converted and you will need the DVD9, you may not need to use Shrink.

Heres a very basic guide how I burn my AVI files using NVE

alkohol has a very comprehensive guide (in my sig)

Thank you gwendolin, although i do know the basics about encoding and burning files (as both guides provided) but it confirmed settings that i am/know i should be using

and the files im wanting to encode and burn are a TV series so really wanting to get as many onto a DVD5 Disc as possible. with perfect sync. i wouldnt care about a slight drop in screen res. but it would appear i only get pauses and sync problems while trying to squeeze the files onto one disc.

and you mentioned if i intend to use Nero?? im more than willing to try any other encoding and burning programs?? i am a vivid and true customer to ConvertXtoDVD and its never let me down......until now!

so any other program suggestions? that would be great!!
cheers

so the problem ur having is that the audio is ahed of or behind the video (some one says something and the words comeout like 3 seconds later) i had this happen once, i belive it was because i tried to burn too much memory to one DVD and Shrink compressed the video and not the audio. now as for Nero, Nero actualy has a compresion seting itself. if you put in ur AVIs and they run over 4.7gb then try increasing the playtime to long and you should be able to fit them all on one normal DVD-R.

(if i was confusing, plz ask me to reiderate)

right erm i tried my way of burning to a folder when Nero was in DVD9 mode, then compressed using virtual Drive and Magic DVD Copier - i got an output but it wouldnt play on my Standalone DVD player (it usually plays the well copied discs) so i played it on my better one and same sync problems! grr :(

so Starrift, il try your method now. i hope that works, ive wasted about 6 discs now :( il keep 'em crossed

no, the files are perfect before encoding. if changing to extended play doesnt work, which i think it wont. i think i may convert to rmvb, then encode in convertXtoDVD, but im not sure

ive been pondering this for some time now and i still cant think of any other solution... your doing 8 files at 175mb each, that comes to 1.4gb so even with the enlargment, that should still fit properly...

yeah i know, it doesn't add up at all. well its been 8hours since the extended play files started encoding and the disc is almost burned.

so I'll edit this post with the result on them

EDIT: yet again the disc wouldn't play on my shop bought average DVD player, but would play on my higher range one (that i treat like my baby! well it cost more than my children!!)

anyways, its a big fail. audio sync still off. this time i thought i would save the optional log file in Nero. so here it is below. i think the next option is to pick up my computer and smash it against the wall........failing that any options?? pleeeeeeease??

here is the:
LOG FILE

If you're experiencing audio out of sync, try this; remove the "Nero Video Decoder" codec from your system or directory.
Quote:
[19:16:15] NeroVision Physical memory : 479MB (490864kB)
[19:16:15] NeroVision Free physical memory: 157MB (161576kB)
[19:16:15] NeroVision Memory in use : 67 %

[19:16:15] NeroVision Recorder: SONY DVD RW DW-G120A, Media type: DVD-R
[19:16:15] NeroVision Disc Manufacturer: UME01 -
[19:16:15] NeroVision Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 193

I've checked your log and it seems to be good, except the 2 above. Nero Vision use 90% of your CPU and RAM, so it's wise to add another 512MB if possible. I've never heard of media: UME01? Try other high class media like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Hitachi Maxell (Made In Japan) for your next project.

Best of luck!!

^^ cheers! just wondering where i can find that codec?? been looking for it on my system and cant seem to find it.

also is the media type really important? i have found some Verbatim discs at a great price. and may purchase them in bulk now. if its greatly necessary.

EDIT i reseached media code UME01. and would turn out that their DVD reliability is mixed, their burn reliability is also mixed. and their console compatibility is poor. im thinking my investment in these low priced discs was a bad one....i have over 100 of these damn things! :( do you happen to know the media code for Verbatim discs??
