I am trying to burn a movie and was getting a message that said 'Medium Not Present' on DVD Decrypter. My question is, is that a problem with the disc? I was trying to use a +R disc.

OK. I am concerned though because it gave me this message: 'Bad flashing could destroy your drive definitively.' Do I need to worry about this?

Introduction
Firmware consists of the combination of an EPROM chip installed in the HP DVD Writer with programming information that tells the DVD Writer hardware how to respond to commands issued by software. The DVD Writer firmware can be updated by running a firmware update utility that re-programs the EPROM chip.
Firmware upgrades are available for some, but not all DVD Writers. The steps referred to in this document provide a quick way to check the current firmware revision and if a firmware update is currently available.
Before Beginning
The software included with the DVD Writer must be installed and the DVD Writer connected to the computer before completing the next section. If possible, the computer should also be connected to the Internet.
Locating the firmware version of the HP DVD Writer drive
1.
Click Start, Programs, Hewlett-Packard, HP DVD and then choose HP DVD to start the HP DVD Writer menu of software selections.
2.
The HP MyDrive utility will display information about the HP DVD Writer including the firmware version (see figure 1). HP MyDrive can be accessed via one of the three methods listed below depending on the version installed:
*
Access HP MyDrive from the main HP DVD Writer opening menu.
*
Access HP MyDrive from the Support tab.
*
Access HP MyDrive from the Help tab.
Figure 1: HP MyDrive Screen
3.
If connected to the Internet, click the Check for firmware update button to automatically check for a firmware update.
*
If the computer with the HP DVD Writer is not connected to the internet, the latest firmware update can also be downloaded from HP's support web site. Compare the version information reported from the HP MyDrive utility with the latest firmware version available for download. If a firmware update is not posted for the HP DVD Writer, the DVD Writer already has the latest firmware version and no new firmware update is currently available for the drive.
4.
If the HP MyDrive utility states a firmware update is available, click the Download latest firmware button and follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...1101461&lang=en
if not XP just hunt site, page before gives choice for OS.
Close all apps and turn you Internet connection off and don't turn off the pc. Follow their instructions to the tee.
The newest firmware is 68JH, decrypter will tell you what your firmware currently is!

It isn't working. It kept giving me a message that it doesn't match.
Do you think if I tried using -R discs instead that it would work on those?

You can use DVD+ or DVD- .When DVD Decrypter says Medium not Present take the movie out then put a blank in your burner to burn.

I clicked the Identify button on the DVD Identifier, but the message that came up said Logical Unit Not Ready under the Additional Information part. Under the part where it said Unique Disc Identifier it all says not available.

Did you flash you dvd writer with new firmware? What brand of media and the Speed of media are you using? If it's 16x your drive will probably not recognize it! Find an old blank 4X or 8X and see if it can read those blanks. With the drives being so cheap now get yourself a new drive for Xmas, IF you can't update the firmware.

Maybe you need to reflash your drive and even get an older firmware that works. If that does not work it may mean the drive is dead.

well, for my "Nu-Tech" Burner..hehe laugh all you want :-)!
It was an .exe file, i ran the .exe and it said "the flash warning" then you continue with that, then there will be a meter that will fill up or something, just make sure that you have NO media in your drive or anything when you flash it.
