Along with my little PS2 adventures; i have purchased swapmagic 3.8 coder. This happens to be my first swapmagic, so i have no previous experience to compare it to. Right now i am having 0 luck with it.

First. I am using two 1st class media. Verbatim 16x DVD+Rs and Sony 8x DVD-R.

My PS2 can read both successfully, how do i know? i checked. I copied a dvd movie on both media and played it fine.

Now i attempted to play a back up game. I burned FFXII on to both media (just in case) and used swapmagic DVD, swapped out, etc. FFXII On verbatim did not run, the FFXII sony ran once, and the FMVs were super jerky. So i thought perhaps it was the ISO.

I backed up my own game, Devil may cry 3, and then burnt it onto both media. Attempted to play the back ups using Swap magic 3.8 dvd. again no luck.

How do i attempt to play it? Well here is exactly what i do:

I insert swap magic DVD into the PS2. Reset it.
When it loads, i select "Normal boot" on the first of menus,
then it prompts for a selection of video mode, PAL, Default, or NTSC.

This is where i flip open my fliptop lid and insert backed up game of choice. Then i select NTC. Ps2 bums around for a little bit and boom, i get the red screen sayin g"please insert a PS2/PSX format disc." Now I Must be doing something wrong.

it can't be the media. it probably isnt the discs, it must be my process.

For the record i have tried FFXII, DMC3. Shadows of the colossus. No success yet. If there are ANY successful users, please share your advice. I am quite unhappy atm, maybe im doing something grossly wrong.

forgot to add.. will someone please tell me what the differences between the 3 boot versions are ?

there is a normal boot vs a special boot vs an smboot. What the hell are they? in what situations are they used?

You're meant to insert the disc before selecting a boot method. Not sure what Special and SM boots are for, though.
