I realize there are tons of discussions on PAL to NTSC on this site. I have not found one guide that is recent and working for me that is. Could someone here please steer me in the right direction. I have a home movie in PAL DVD which I would like to convert over to NTSC. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is one of the best guides I've found. Notice it is NTSC-> PAL

but, the process works the same BACKWARD...you only have to THINK it through. And I know you're probably smart enought to work it out.

Edit, Ok, I notice you already have your PAL on DVD, and the guide is for an XviD file....so you need the begin the conversion process with

1. ripping the PAL DVD to harddrive
2. choice: Parse the .vob with VirtualDubMod creating a AVI then ....or Demux .vob then directly convert the PAL MPEG-2 to NTSC

the framerate can be changed with virtualdubMod or later with the Mpeg encoder along with the framesize.. And if you happen to have Adobe Audition it works better than BeSweet to time shrink/pitch correct your audio...or try the DGPulldown method

Here's a guide for converting specifically from PAL to NTSC:
http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=56599

You can do these kind of conversions, but honestly, I think they are hardly worth the effort. To do it right you end up using 4 or 5 different software programs and spending a lot of time.

Even then, sometimes the results turn out OK but many times not. Audio sync problems can occur as well as motion artifacts. Software converting between PAL and NTSC should always be a last resort.

If you have a PAL DVD and you want to watch it on an NTSC TV I think the best thing is just to buy a DVD player that will play PAL and output NTSC for your TV. They aren't that expensive. I spent less than $50 for mine and I use it all the time to watch PAL DVD's.

Next best compromise, if you don't want to buy a PAL DVD player, is to use one-click software like NeroVision Express. It will convert between PAL and NTSC rather painlessly. It's not perfect, but it's quick and easy. Use the Make DVD option in NeroVision, load your VOB or mpeg files, and make sure you have NTSC selected as the video option. It will then create an NTSC version of your movie which you can then burn.
