my ps2 plays dvds but when they play its almost like it loses connection to the tv for about 10 seconds at a time tv turns solid blue and when I can see the screen play the colors change and the screen shifts a bit. this is just in my ps2 dvd player. any ideas on what this could be?

PS2's are not great at DVD playback, but it should still work better than that. Mine use to skip a little during playback.
The only way to tell if it is the PS2 or the DVD you made is by playing it in a DVD player. or even if you play the disc with a movie player on your PC.
If it doesn't do the same thing then it is a problem with the PS2.
Does this only happen when playing a back up movie copy?
Do original movies play fine?
Do games (original or back up) play fine?

The dvd's i use are brand new and are original (not copied or anything) all games work completely fine. these dvds arent really watchable quality. Although i think i remember getting a dvd to work once or twice. I really dont know what im talking about but could it be something to do with PAL and NTSC? i have a v7 fat ps2

i do not think PAL or NTSC would have anything to do with it as
your PS2 will usually not even play a movie from another region.
I have tried PAL movies on my NTSC system, and even with a top notch mod chip the screen on the TV just tells me something like
"tv system not supported" and will do nothing but give a black screen with the message.

i know this is not a real great solution but your best bet is to go buy a stand alone DVD player. They play movies better than the PS2. They will save the laser life of your PS2 as well. Plus they are pretty cheap these days for a good one. I think my Lite-On player was like $50 and it can also burn discs (great if you have Tivo or digital recorder or even a VCR)
With the player/burner you can take anything from the above recorders and put them on DVD.
My slimline PS2 would play some movies fine and get skiipy with others. I tested the same movies on a friends DVD player and they played fine so i knew it was the PS2.

yeah i am getting a dvd/ DivX player at walmart for 40buks i think that would be a fairly good deal. hopefully the ps3 can play movies a hell of a lot better than the ps2.
