swap magic / fliptop on silver ps2 slim

hey, i just ordered a ps2 slim silver edition and want to use swap-magic on it. just so i understand it, i can play backups (burnt on a DVD-R) using this:

and that's all i need? it just works? what is the 'coder' add on, and do i need that too? it looks like you have to take off the flip-cover, if i ever want to put it back on is it possible?
