I have an old "chubby" PS2 which I was using with the external network adapter and hard drive. It was working like a dream until my last convert using the slide key, I somehow managed to jam the cd-rom tray. After trying to fix the problem I only made it worse. I decided to take the PS2 apart with having very little knowledge of the device. Bummer, wasnt able to fix it. So I decided to buy a new PS2 slim, USB enclosure for my hard drive and USBextreme.

I was able to copy the games over to the USB enclosure, launch USBextreme and came to the same problem others have found... not ALL games are compatible. Launch the game and BLAM, black screen. Now, that stinks.

My question is what to do? I bought the extended warranty for the new PS2 slim, so I am hoping for a method that will not void the warranty. If that is not possible, then what would be the easiest method and most compatible.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Well my first question would be what store did you buy it from ? I bought my slim ps2 from toys-r-us and while i was in warranty i took it back and to be honest they did not even look at the warranty sticker it is mostly only sony that will care when you send it back.... Also i have heard of a method using a blow dryer on removing and putting the sticker back if you are the paranoid type... My advice would be to get a copy of swap magic 3.6 and i'm pretty sure one the sets i've seen does not require you to open it just snap in 3-4 pieces ;)

Thank you for the quick reply.

I bought the unit from Best Buy, so the warranty will be with them for the next 2 years.

I have searched and found a combo Swap Magic 3.6 with 4 or 5 pieces that snap in different place. Is this very compatible with different "backed up" PS2 games?

Looking for more input.

Thanks

Swap magic is very compatiable with different games the only downner is that if the disc is very big DVD-9 double layer disc (god of war, bulletproof, godfather) will not work so you will have to rip it or rebuild it, also swapping can sometimes get boring but it isn't too much work just put in swap magic and after it's loaded swap it for your burnt disc each time and your done. A modchip on the other hand can be a bit more money but is very risky to install if you have no soldering skills you can easily fry and distroy the system like i did :( The only different is no swapping just directly put in the game like an original and also it can play DVD-9 double layer games but you will need a DVD-DL disc.... there aren't many DVD-9 disc though so it's up to you.

Soldering is out of the question, I just dont have the hands for that. Doing some more research, I will need to find out if I have the PS2 slim that has the "block" on the lid latch.

I am open to any suggestions or personal experiences anybody else has had.

Thanks again

I still have it, in pieces. I have a co-worker who is profiecent is taking it apart and putting it back together. I may send it to him to see if he can repair it. I was in good working order, until I broke the cdrom tray.
