Hi,

ive read as much as i can from various sources, ive come across some conflicting info.

Am i right in assuming the long tool (C) fits through the hole and disables the micro switch, which in some cases i have seen the case being opened and the switch covered, thus voiding the warranty.

what i want to know is does magic keys work on my version and without having to void my warranty.
the PS2 was brought today for my daughter for xmas, now if i gotta void the warranty i would just prefer to solder in a DMS4.

any info appreciated, thx :)

Yes, it will work. Technically, it will always work, but the people who can't figure out how to get tool C in resort to opening the case. I'll tell you right now, it's very difficult to get that last tool in. It does, however, work on every slim PS2 version so far. I have seen it done on old slimlines (without the block) and new slimlines (including my own). Some people just can't manage to do it, and this may be the case for you. If so, I HIGHLY recommend that you simply go inside and tape over the switch instead of using a modchip. A .5"x.5" piece of tape is not nearly as potentially damaging to your console as a solder-in modchip, or even a no-soldier chip. Even if you are a practiced electrician, one drop of soldier in the wrong spot can ruin a console and your $300 investment, not to mention making your daughter very angry.

Brilliant!

It's easy as pie. (Perhaps this is a bad example; I am awful at baking, pies in particular. Revised version: It's really easy.)

1: Remove the black tabs from the bottom of your slim ps2 using a fingernail or screwdriver (they pop off). There are six to remove (the two on the very top do not contain screws).

One of these six blocks is located under the warantee sticker in the bottom center, try to remove this sticker as slowly as possible to avoid voiding your warantee; if you can see damage or the word "void" on the sticker, you screwed up.

Under each tab is a screw; unscrew and remove the screws.

2: Open the ps2 case (the top and bottom parts of the case come apart at a seam that is clearly visible on the side).

3: Find the switch... it is located in the top-right, to the left of the disk drive apparatus. It looks like a small black block, about 4cmx6cm, with a TINY button in the center. Tape over this button with very sticky tape (I recommend carpet or insulation tape).

4: Close the case, but DONT PUT THE SCREWS BACK IN. You want to make sure you did it correctly, I made the mistake of re-closing the case and had to open it again to fix my tape.

5: Assuming that you have all of the other Magic Keys already installed, put a disk in the drive and press the RESET button, but DONT CLOSE THE FLIP-TOP. If you did it correctly, the disk should spin with the case open. If you didn't, it wont; go back in and check your tape.

Brilliant!

Ok so i get the disc's and the tools, i got to say there is no need to open the case, ive got the latest PS2 and its still a easy as hell to get the tool in, 1st go in it went no probs, just get a pair of tweezers and gently let it feel its way in. 2nd tool in, some tape over it aswell close the lid.
Put in the swap disc open the lid stick in ur copied game, close the lid, there she go's :D
