i recently upgraded my os hdd from a maxtor 120 to a maxtor 250 and not when i transfer files to my western D hdd it takes alot longer than before. like 15 min for one gig instead of 2 min or less. i did have problems with my ide cable so i switched that out and used one that came out of my dvd burner package. this cabel didnt have a blue motherboard connector like my original had. could that have anything to do with it?

no it looks exactly the same. except the plug on the end is blue on the old one and black on the new one. other than that exactly the same. it has the red stripe on one side of the cable also.

The blue connector is the key, It was an 80 conductor cable, They sometimes look the same because they run the extra wire in what looks like the same insulation. After you replace the cable have a look in device manger to check what transfer mode the HDD's are in. Should be something like UDM5
