Well for what you get from the ps3 theres alot out of it. Than Xbox u have to buy all these add on's to get full potential of the game let me know what you think heres a list.
The only things you would really have to buy are the HD cables and the HD-DVD drive if you want a fully HD Xbox 360 system. If you wanted to come close to the offerings of the PS3 eg. 60GB of space or playing online for free (although sony has told third party's they are welcome to charge for playing on their servers) it would come at an exorbitantly high price.
Sony has also issued a statement saying "Through our comparison chart we are not implying that you must purchase the myriad of peripherals and add-ons that Microsoft offers to play your Xbox 360. You don't. However, if you want to attempt to come close to the performance of the $499 PlayStation 3 by using your Xbox 360, Core or Premium, you could only do that through expensive add-ons -- that is what our chart is demonstrating. Once you add it all up, it would cost you more than our $499 unit, and you would still not come close to everything we offer, ie: free multiplayer gaming, 50GB storage capacity of Blu-ray disc, Blu-ray disc player for games AND movies, processing power of the Cell Broadband Engine."
i like to focus on "can be", which does not apply to me b/c i do not want any addons at the momment apart from xbox live which costs a little, but considering that for the ps3 you need to buy separate component cables, well that evens it all up for me.
PS3 specs may look better than xbox 360 but i am yet to see a game on the PS3 that looks better than any of the top end xbox 360 games such as gears of war, mass effect and halo 3.
360 comes with component cables which work up to 1080p (that's correct). PS3 doesn't even come with component cables (just cheap composite cables), let alone the hdmi which you MUST HAVE to get full resolution.
And 360 owners don't need to have the HD-DVD drive to watch hd movies. They can be downloaded and played off the hdd. Not that it matters to the majority of console owners anyhow... they didn't buy their unit for watching movies, they bought it for GAMING. And giving Sony's track record with laser quality, I wouldn't consider using it to watch movies anyhow. It's going to be interesting to see how well they hold up considering the production problems they've been having already with the lasers.
How much do you have to spend to replace the ps3 controller once it doesn't hold a charge anymore (no access to batteries). And lets mention that you can't charge the controller and play at the same time unless you sit 4 feet in front of the ps3.
Why would I need to buy a second Xbox hdd when I could just use any usb hdd?. That wouldn't make sense.
360 owners can detach the hdd and take it to use on another 360. Guess the PS3 owners will need to pick up some memory cards.
$50 a year vs. free... well you get what you pay for. For instance, COD3 on the 360... me and 3 of my friends can play online from my machine (with no extra cost). What's it with the PS3... just 1 person per machine? And I've played with the PS2 online and you know what... Sony fanboys can keep it. What crap.
