I'm trying to make a DVD with many anime episodes on it. So I have DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, but neither allow me to make menus. All DVD-Shrink does is throw all the episodes on the dvd and combine them into one large movie. I don't want that, I want to be able to choose which episode I want to watch. I have Sonic My DVD but that program sucks, once i put on like 6 episodes it claims it is full, when I know most DVD's can hold at least 12-13 30min. long episodes.

So my question to everyone is, is there a free program or easy way to make menus for my dvd so I can at least choose which episode I want. Does Nero allow you to easily create a good dvd w/ menus? BTW all my episodes are .avi format, but I have winavi video converter. Thanks

Magic DVD Copier, or Nero
Both give free trials.

Magic DVD Copier

Nero

I don't know how to make menus, I just know you can.

Hmmm anything that is completely free? I don't want to have a limited ammount of time, plus most free dvd programs leave water marks or litte logos blocking the picture.

I don't think so..
If you want the better brands, then most likely you will have to pay..

Haven't tried this program, but it seems like it will work...

Try using Pinnacle's Studio 10. It's not free, but it will do what you want.

You are not going to find a free app that will do what you want to do. So I'm sorry to say you might need to pony up some money to get a program that will get the job done.

The best program that I have used is ConvertXTODvd and that will make a DVD menu for you to choose between the episodes plus convert all in 1. Of course it is a pay App around $39 well worth the money. You can get a trial version but like you said it will leave a watermark.

Nero Vision Express will let you make a DVD with menus as well. But you will be limited on how many episodes can be put on the DVD. NVE acts like a VHS recorder it has three stages of capacity.

As you add video files Nero will start off on Standard mode as you add more files it will then say it is full and ask if you want to go to long play then after a while it will say the disc is full and ask if you want to go to super long play which is the last capacity stage then that is the most you can get onto a disc.

You could always set NVE to do a DVD9 disc and set it up to output to a VIDEO_TS folder which after it converts and is finished you then can import it into Nero Recode and have it shrink the disc to DVD5. Thats if you want to get a few more episodes onto a disc. But be aware the more episodes you put on the disc the lower the quality will be.

NVE sounds terribly complicated and tedius. Does that convertxtoDVD work well? I really wish DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter made menus, those programs are so incredibly simple and fast.

Yes it does, and I think you can burn DVDs with it too.
I haven't burned one, but I have the program.

I got Nero Vision but I cannot find any option at all on making a DVD menu, are you sure it can do that?

Also, in Nero is there any way I can make it so all 12 episodes can fit on the DVD without exporting to other programs, shrinking things and such, that all seems too complicated. For example, DVD Shrink lets you compress the files right then and there to fit the DVD. It usually lets about 12-13 25min long anime episodes fit onto the DVD. Will Nero vision do this for me, if so can someone tell me how?

I honestly don't understand why sonic my dvd, and Nero vision only let me put about 6 episodes onto a dvd when DVD Shrink lets me do around 13. If DVD Shrink would just let me be able to somehow choose which episode I want to watch instead of just auto playing them all, I would have no problems whatsoever.

Well, I don't know how to this stuff, because I don't have a DVD burner, but I know what programs are good and all that stuff.

MakoHazrd,

You might want to give DIKO a try. It'll take your AVI files as input, convert them, allow you to make rudimentary DVD menus, then output the files you need for dvd-burning. It's freeware, and I have been pleased with the results.

MakoHazrd,

Also, check out DVDStyler which is another freeware program. It's included in the DIKO package I mentioned above, but you can also download it separately. It is rudimentary, but you can import your own background images for your menus and it gets the job done.

Doing the the math I get:

13 X 30= 390 minutes, divided by 60 = 6.5 hours on a DVD. That would be pretty horrible to look at as you would need a video bitrate of about 1300 kbit/s. NeroVision Express defaults to 5017 kbit/s (Standard Play) as an example. You can add more than a dozen vid files in NVE but the lowest bitrate it will allow is 1691 kbit/s, and that changes the project to Half D1 which means you might get about 6 hours of low quality VHS quality video.

Sadly with NVE the most episodes it lets me fit on a DVD is 6. And that is at its lowest quality. I even already have the episodes converted to Video_TS files via winavi. I guess I'll give that diko a try.

I know I can get 12-13 eps onto a DVD with decent quality, I have made a few like that with DVD Shrink. All I need is the MOST BASIC of menus. I don't care about looks at all, all I need is to be able to select episodes.
