Frankie27 made a list of cso to show everybody how big each of those games was.

The higher the compression number is, the smaller the compressed ISO file will be.

i always use 9 but sometimes certain games lagging but in the end i'm using level 6 or 7 n it worked out well.

Did you guys actually know what the different levels of compression actually mean?

Its like with WinZIP, WinRAR, 7z... there isn't much difference between levels.

This is an example:

Asphalt Urban GT 2

Original ISO: 843MB
CSO Level 1: 361MB
CSO Level 5: 346MB
CSO Level 9: 345MB

My point is that level 9 is actually useless (like with any other compression program/method).

Even Level 1 is quite OK if it means faster loading. Its just 16MB between MAX and MIN compression level.

Take care :)

So using level 1 as compression it will load faster ...???
Fine with me cause 16 MB is sort of like nothing when your using a big MS...LOL

Well it should be more tested.

I just replied to those who are determined to use Level 9 compression while there is really minimum differance in size compared to Level 5.

Compression has many advantages and some disadvantages.

+ smaller size (BIG PLUS :) )
+ faster loading times with slow memory cards
- uses more CPU resources for decompressing on-the-fly
- sometimes can slow down the running game
- slower loading times with fastest memory cards (not sure 'couse I don't know what is the internal PSP transfer rate from Memory Stick to RAM.)

That's why there are different levels of compression. The more complex compression the more CPU power is required for decompression. Usually the default setting is the best compromise between CPU power required and file size. In case of CSO this would be Level 5.

So the +'s are the advantages and the -'s are the disadvantages..
I thought 9 is the default level of compression....

im just reading about compressing iso files ive just downloaded mortal kombat unchained for psp the rar file is 917MB i changed it into CSO it is now 1,108,555 KB is there any way i can get it down to under 1GB cos i only have a 1 gig card

basically what i want to no is what files can i delete out of the iso that arent really needed such as video audion someting like that so it will still work or can i split the file and then compress it to a CSO put half of it on me card and half on another 1gig card or isnt that possible or is there any programs out there that can split it

thanks in advance if anyone can help me

If you want to remove music and/or video in your ISO you need a Ripper.. and it isn't possible to split an ISO sorry mate =\...

i am not sure i see the point of this list when there is no indication of how these sizes were achieved, and whether they were rips or simply compressed or what level they were compressed to

i could see the point of a list detailing the sizes obtained when Full Dumps were compressed all at the same ciso level (say lvl 5) so that everyone would know how to achieve the sizes and the sizes would actually be useful

NOT a criticism, but an observation

1.52>2.0>1.5>3.40 OE-A>3.71 M33-4
3.60>4.01 M33-2

The list isn't very specific. I've got CSO's of some of the games listed yet my ones aren't as small as they are in the list. What gives? Are the CSO's 100% compressed versions of the ISO's or do they have stuff taken out of them like cut scenes (which reduces size by lots)?

Also, I tried different compression levels using PSP ISO Compressor and they don't seem to make any difference in size (1-9 all same size) and speed (1 isn't any faster than 9). Anyone?

that is the point made in my post above yours
whilst vaguely interesting what people have managed to do, the list is ultimately not that useful until some uniformity is introduced

1.52>2.0>1.5>3.40 OE-A>3.71 M33-4
3.60>4.01 M33-2

sorry for not making it clear guys here is how i done it

it was a dump from a umd and also a downloaded rar file of the same game

i opened yacc and put in source file and destination folder click on advanced options click on cisoplus level 9 compression threshold 99 tick in optimaised then click do not compress video files and audio files make sure there is a black spot under this heading leave update and boot.bin as compress then press go

note it doesnt matter what compress level you choose 1-9 this is just the speed it compresses ie 1 is fastest 9 is slowest both still do the kob only one is quicker than the other

hope this has cleared my other thread above up abit for yas all

sorry again
