OK, so I own a launch version of the playstation 2, and the thing finally died on me. Its been having a harder and harder time loading games, and I've had to dismantle it to clean the lense in the past, but it's just given up completely now.
I don't want to have to purchase another ps2 so close to the release of these new systems, one of which I'll probably get at some point, so I was considering doing ps2 emulation until then.
What is the quality of emulation for the ps2? Will there be a lot of frame rate loss / glitches / anything I should know about?
i think that you will find that there are no real good PS2 emulators out there for your PC. They have just never made anything really worth getting.
So if you plan to shell out the $500 and get a PS3 then just wait.
Personally i would wait a while on any next gen systems as they are bound to have bugs that need to be worked out.
Yeah I'm definitely holding off on the next gen consoles for now.
PS3 is plagued with problems, have no good games out, and the price is ridiculous.
Xbox360 is getting some good games, but I have a strong grudge against the company after owning an xbox, only to realize later that ninja gaiden, and halo 1 were the only two games ever released that weren't terrible.
Wii looks great, but so far all it has is Twilight Princess, and I don't see much on the horizon...
Thanks I'll check out those links, if all else fails I suppose I'll buy another ps2 in the meantime.
If you scrap your PS2, at least sell it for parts, might as well turn trash into cash. People buy up Broken PS2's on Ebay all the time for spare parts.
Also, if your just having disc read problems, you might be able to just buy a new laser. No point in shelling out for a whole new system if you can cut the cost significantly and have the same end result.
I was a PS2 man all the way, that is until i got my
modded Xbox. The Xbox (modded) can just do so much more than most people realize. And since the PS2 and Xbox have about the sames games on them i just started getting them for Xbox instead of PS2.
If i were having to buy another console a premodded Xbox would
be at the top of my list with PS2 in second and the Wii not even
in the running.
As for next gen they are starting to get where i want them to be. I saw the first modchip for Xbox 360 that works with all of the current DVD drives so once the price drops a little i think i will pick one up.
I stuck with the PS2... I was totally against the PS as I hated the scratch vulnerable CD's and loading times, plus needed mem cards for everything. I think cartridges are gonna be the new wave after this gen...
Once memory stick technology cheapens up, expect to see games on an ULTRA TINY stick. Not only will there be no chances for scratched media, but load times will be nullified.
As far as buying a next gen console... I'm suprisingly hoping the wii gets some real games. I'd like the better graphics of the 360 or PS3 but all they want to do is cram too much unneeded crap into a small package. But if it comes down to the big 2, I might fall back behind Sony for free online play. I'm biased against M$ also.
Well even if your are not fond of Micrpsoft, they make a console
that will do much more than Sony's will. Or Nintendo for that
matter. Just look at their current console.
See with the Xbox (modded)you do not need memory cards, you slap in a big hard drive and you do not even need discs. The load times from a hard drive well exceed times of those who play off of discs.
You can stream movies & music through your Xbox to your TV or
stereo, it has emulators and roms to play all your old favorites.
Lots of great software. you can transfer files back and forth from the PC, as well as update programs, download dashboard screen right to the Xbox, listen to shoutcast radio via a internet connection.
and there are 2 free online gaming systems for Xbox as well.
Xlink Kai and XBconnect.
and that is really just touching on a few areas. I love my PS2 and all but since i got the Xbox it collects dust more than it gets
played.
