not a printer cable is parallel to centronics where as what you need is a null modem/serial cable.

Hello. Just joined the forums.

I've read through pretty much the whole thread, and initially had quite a few questions (I'm about to buy a Nokia DBox2). Having done quite a bit of reading, most of them have been answered.

One thing that I haven't been able to find a definitive answer on yet tho is the PPV thing.

I've seen quite a few people asking whether you can get the PPV events (fights, prem plus etc) and I've seen one person answer "no, you can't" but I noticed someone else ask, in this thread, "didn't you get the fight last weekend?"

Could someone shed a bit of light on this for me please. I want to know if the PPV events such as the boxing and prem plus matches are under the same restrictions as the front row/on demand movies.

Cheers.

Sorry, I missed out one more thing. Another thing I'm a bit sketchy about is the recording facility on the dbox2. I believe you can record direct from the tv to it, but you need a hard drive attached. I haven't seen these anywhere on ebay, and I can't find them anywhere else either (unless Im looking for the wrong thing). Anyone got any pointers?

Thanks again.

You can also fit a hard drive to the DBox. I ordered one from the link below which costs about ?75. Delivery is 6 weeks from Germany.

Hi, just posted a smimilar message on another thread but if your box is still down message me with your email address and I'll send the info. straight back to you. It's very easy to fix. There must be a private message thingy on this board 'cos I just got one from someone. (I don't want to put my email address on the board.) You'll need the disc and the box to PC cable you got with your box.

Which message are you talking about? The Starview? If it is then the fix is already on here.

Hi, I haven't seen it on here, just the advice to get the box working in the first place. I also spotted the one you have to pay for but if it's already on here then that's fine. Just trying to help.

You need an RS-232 serial cable. Any decent pc shop should stock them. If not try your local pc world. Then follow the link on this thread. You will find all software you need including instructions on how to do it. Its very easy if you TAKE YOUR TIME!!

I'm looking into buying a Nokia DBox2 but I cannot find a drawing of how the box is connected to the Telewest box I currently have. I've seen referece to a cable splitter. Is this required to split the cable before it goes into the 2 boxes.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks

you will not need the wire that goes into the back of your cable box just unscrew it from the box. what i did was just chop the end off and put a normal aerial fitting on as with these boxes they are a push in not screw in. if you dont want to chop it just get an adaptor on your screw in part to make it a push in.also if you cancel your cable subscription they will collect there box your feed is still live so you only really need your d box.

Thanks for that Gary.

Have your cable company taken your box away yet? Is the quality through the DBox and better/worse or the same as ntl/Telewest?

Don't get them to take it away unless you also have broadband as they might disconnect you in the street. The picture from the DBox2 is superb. If you keep the cable box you need a splitter like the ones below. Take the cable from your cable box and connect it to the splitter, use the other 2 leads to connect the 2 boxes back up.
