RAR FILES REAPPEAR EVEN AFTER THEY ARE DELETED - HELP!!!!!!!

I wasnt sure where to post this so i put it in here..
My brother in law is having a problem with his pc
& i was wondering if the good people of Afterdawn could help..
He says that loads of .rar files just keep appearing on his C drive.
He has tried deleting them, but they just keep reappeariing.
Can anyone help??

I don't know much about .rar (zip type)files, but have him run a check for viruses. It sounds like he may have got them from a "troubled" source.

Ok, my niece who's 13 uses the computer when he's at work,
so could it be something she's done?
Even if it was something she downloaded, it would still affect him even though they have different user accounts wouldn't it??
I have told him to do an online virus scan with panda & advised him to use a different anti virus as he's using mcafee.
Anything i can tell him to do??

I am not sure. Maybe, don't download illegal files, but getting viruses is not limited to illegal downloads.

If you have something like Norton's then there is an 'enhanced recycle bin'. Basically, Norton's and other programs try to protect you from accidental deletions, but in so doing, makes it so it's pretty difficult to get rid of unwanted files. Try deleting the files and go into your recycle bin and look for various options to permanently delete the files and empty the bin. If the amount of free disk space does not increase, then you have not really deleted the files, and they are lurking somewhere in some trash bin. On Norton's protected drives, the trash bin is a hidden directory called "Recycler" (as opposed to "Recycled", which is where Windows itself puts files into the recycling bin for deletion.)
-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

Ok, Thanks for the help guys.

I've been using AVG pro & am using an external 320gb drive
to store games, films, music & pictures etc on..
About a week ago i noticed a couple of new folders appeared on the external hard drive & One was the Recycler.
I can't remember the name of the other one.
Anyway, they were both hidden folders but somehow i managed to set it so i could see the hidden folders..
Whenever i went into the recycler there were 2 more folders & each one had a long list of letters & numbers as their names..
Whenever i went into these folders they were always full of everything i had previously deleted..
Sometimes if i deleted these they would just reappear & sometimes i was able to delete them.
Should they have been on the external hdd?
I thought they should have been on the windows drive (C)..
After i reinstalled windows the folders disappeared.

That's part of Norton's. Norton's is the worst - this is one (of a great many) reasons why I don't recommend it to my customers.
Anyway, you should be able to right-click on your trash bin on your desktop and disable this for that particular drive or even altogether (I'm hoping you did not reinstall over fears of a trojan or something!) I believe it even installs as a separate component of Norton's so you can disable it in the configuration or use Add/Remove programs. It changes with different versions of Norton's. I think it's called Norton Protected Recycle Bin. Once you do that you can just go into the Recycler folders and delete everything normally, just make sure to empty your recycle bin.

Ok,
Thanks dunker, you've been a great help mate..
One last question, what would you say is the best anti virus??
I've used that may different ones & the i think are the 3 best are:
Panda
AVG Pro
Nod32

Going from bottom to top on your list I'd say you're in the right ballpark. NOD32 is probably the best. I'd say the paid version of Avira Anti-vir is a little better than Panda, but AVG Pro is better than either. I use the free versions of both.

I had the same prob and after
extensive virus checks found
my hard drive was crapping out
