I am having a little trouble with Xbox Media Center. I have backed up .avi files of Southpark on a DVD-R data disk, and I have no trouble going to xbmx and playing them... The problem that I am having is that I am trying to make a data disk of another DVD (Pirates of the carribean). I take .avi files of Pirates of the Carribean and I put them on a data disk, exactly what I did with southpark. I then insert the disk into my xbox and run XBMC, I go to "videos", I click "D:\", and it is showing no files. It should be showing the pirates.avi file, but there is nothing there.
So I boot back to unleashx dashboard and I go to file explorer and open up my d:\ drive and I see the files... also, I can go into XBMC and open up my d:\ drive, and click the white button on my controller, scroll down to "play disk", and the AVI file will open up and play the disk.
This is fine and dandy, but it becomes a problem when trying to store muliple .avi files on one disk, because it will only play the first file read. Does anyone have an idea to why they are not showing up on xbmc? I downloaded xbmc from XBINS, and I have never had any trouble with it before. Thanks!

your problem is that the .avi is a generic file extension meaning it has both audio and video files composed together (Audio Video Interleave). they can use any number of different compression (codecs) and aren't always recognizable/compatible with your PC/box programs (in this case XBMC doesnt reconize it as a proper video file, but the player portion will decode it as a video disc). your southpark is most likely in XVID/DIVX format with a .avi extension, the pirates movie likely isn't.
