I'm trying to flash my drive. It's a Sammy ms25 and in these instructions I'm reading, it says to copy the xtreme.rar file to my computer but I dont know if I should use the 'xtreme42' file or the 'xtreme42update' file. Is the update just a better one to use?
1. use WinRAR and unzip xtreme42.file
2. you will see two bin files xtreme42a.bin and xtreme42b.bin (I personally recommend using xtreme42b.bin)
3. now the fun part, flashing your sammy ms25
- you will need the mtkfalsh.exe file, this file will allow you to flash your sammy. Depending on your sata type, if you use pci sata then you will have to modify the mtkflash.exe with hex editor.
- create a boot disk from windows, copy the mtkflash.exe and xtreme42b.bin files to the floppy
- reboot your pc, and go into the bios and disable all ide channels
- then boot from floppy
- at the A:\ prompt type => mtkflash r original.bin
- orignal.bin is a file containing your original dvd firmware. KEEP THIS FILE IN A SAFE PLACE. you will also need this file to extract the key to use in the xtreme42b.bin file
- when done copy the original firmware, remove the floppy and reboot
- go back into the bios and enable all idle
- use a hex editor, open the original.bin and go to the memory location ( you have to look at the instructions, cant remember) and copy the key. then open the xtreme42b.bin and go to the same location and past the key over the current one.
- now, reboot, go into your bios disable all ide channels
- at A:\ prompt type mtkflash w xtreme42b.bin
- once done, reboot and enable all ide channels
Sorry, I don't know about xtreme42upadte file. I did see it in the package that I got from xtreme.
