Gte avifixed and divfix and scan the file for bad frames, make sure u make a backup copy of your file before trying though!!
Also u can try in TMPGEnc, click option - environmental setting and click the vfapi plug-in tab and right click directshow multimedia filereader and click higher priority and do so until the priority is "2".

thx Dela, i need to do that anyways as sometimes i get the ntdll.dll error too, and i read on a large number of posts that you say to do the above steps (you must be tired of suggesting that!)
sorry, but i didn't think that the 2 probs were linked in any way...
i'll try it later and will post results
thx again!!!

will do. just seemed strange how it'd stop exactly on 20minutes. call me suspicious...
can you also advise on whether Ulead's Movie Factory 2 is any good for burning to DVD? it will burn .AVI but doesn't seem all too reliable, hence the reason why i want to convert to .mpg
i need to find best package that will give me the best video quality, along with flexibilty of being able to create chapters...etc???
or am i asking too much now???!!!!

Well I used Ulead but had playback problems! But a few on the forum say it is fine, i dunno! lol
Pinnacle Impression DVD Pro is good though IMO!

hmmm, i burnt a movie with Ulead, after about 30mins the video stuck for about 2 seconds then continued, now audio is out of sync!!!
i can only assume that it's the software, as i'm running on P4 1.3GHz, 80GB HDD and 1GB RAM...
will look into Pinnacle Impression.
thx again for your help, i was starting to pull my hair out!!!

aaaaaaaaargh, well kind of anyway!
Dela, did as you sugested, that resolved the ntdll.dll error. all seemed great, but now encoded entire movie, 5 hours later i checked it out, and found that movie was encoded as what seems to be half of normal speed... and after an hour or so it freezes...
so we're almost there it seems, but more advice would be greatly appreciated. plz advise as to all settings i need...?

well, no i guess, if you mean checking with a bit of software. the source runs perfectly well playing through media player...etc and haven't noticed any faults. which package can i test this with?
another thing is yesterday i was trying to use InstantDVD to create the DVD, but why does it render the movie upside-down???

Dela, thx, tried a different AVI now freezes at exactly same point every time... yes, i hear you saying it's a bad AVI file - ran avifixed and it found an error at that exact point but couldn't find how to fix it...
(am i being stupid or what!) but can you plz tell me how to fix it, all i seem to be able to do is delete the index and then recreate it, but that doesn't cut out the bad frames does it?

hmm, have you tried to remove with VirtualDub, usually avifixed would remove it for you!

i'll try with VirtualDub, thx. (wasn't aware that VirtualDub could do it, but then there's a lot i don't know!)
avifixed only has button to "check for errors" but nothing to fix the errors...
sorry about all the stupid questions... i feel i'm so close to getting this right, but also seems so far...!
