can you play game in a (Xbox 360 Core System) without the hard drive?

Yes you can but you will need either a memory card or the HDD to save the game. And if you have a core system, Live Marketplace becomes useless. Also you will not be able to play Xbox 1 games.

Its pretty useless to get a Core System, really. Because MS were stupid enough, imo, to not include any storage device for save files with the core system (right?). I recommend you to save up and get a Premium version instead.

there isn't even a modchip for the 360 available. you'll have to softmod. you'll simply be at a disadvantage for all more typical uses.

So basiclly dont bother buying the core? only buy the premuium? is it a HD only comes with premuim?

there is a modchip but it is only for the dreaded hitachi 78 drive and you wont get one this side of xmas reuires soldering the chip is called the x78

Yup no point in buying a core system. I mean the price of a memory card and the headphones for live will cost around the same as the premium box.
And if by HD you mean the HD player, thats an add-on which shld work with the core system too, i am not wrong.

Would it be possible to buy a core system then just plugin a usb external drive? Would this give you full functionality?

Hmm...i dont think so. MS cant be that dumb. But whenever you download something from Marketplace or when a game tries to save for the first time, the console always ask which storage device you want to use.

Maybe its possible? But i dont see a chance.
