I have a NEC 6500RW DVD writer. I don't have any problems burning -R and +R with Nero but when i tried +RW disc it did nothing nor could it format it. Any suggestions?

Firmware of the burner up to date and what brand of RW disc are they. +RW is on the edge of being usless. I only get a max of 5 burns before the errors cause me to throw it away.

Floss: Get this free program and run it to find the media ID. Ritek makes discs for something like 22 others and there are a bunch of fakes out there to. Quality runs from ok to landfill use only.

http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

Maybe the mods can move this to one of the media forums and we can talk about it in length. Your mate not being able to write to one is not a good sign of quality media. +rw media is spotty at best. Not something you want to use to keep important things for any length of time. I have extensive experience with burning discs and I think we can sort this out but it likley the madia or a brand of burner that just don't like it.

Mods please move to correct forum

Just take the clipboard and copy it to an empty text file. Let me check out that media code 008.

Is it one of these 3 brands?
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?dv...h+or+List+Media

If you read the comments NEC drives don't like this media. Go get yourself a 0ne pack of some other brand and try that. Something like sony or Verbatim. I don't have a Ritek disc here to try but I do have a couple of Benq burners so it should work here. You might have got a bad batch. The 008 codes look rather marginal at best. Ill check you firmware revision next.

Ok Firmware version 2.24 (what you have) is the latest so your ok there. Try a single different brand disc. Nec's can be fussy but they are good burners. Keep me informed

One of the worst :-(

Im going to download version 2.24 and run it through Media speed code edit to see where those stack up if even supported. It might be a generic supported disc. Go buy your self a disc tomorrow. Let me know.

And no worries I like to help

No problem. Let us know when you try another brand +RW disc.
My Benq's like -RW discs better but they are very slow.

Edit:
I did run your 2.24 firmware through Media speed code edit. Ritek 008 is not supported which means the burner would be using some generic write sceme. Here is a list of +RW that it does support.
