Hey folks, so here's the deal... I was buying Swap Magic for a friend of mine, and they sent NTSC instead of PAL discs, and the wrong tray opener tools... so I figured fine, I'll use it on my own PS2. (It's a scph-30001 R) So, I'm trying to get the slider tool to work, and it doesn't, it tries to latch onto something that doesn't exist... go figure.

Finally, when I just try to load the discs, I get the "Cannot Read Disc" error. Any suggestions? I can't send them back to the vendor, because the vendor is no longer answering phone calls, or emails. So, I'm pretty much saddled with these discs and tool, so I'd like to make the best of it.

I'd appreciate any of your suggestions on what I should do to make this swap magic stuff to work.

you can make your own slide card from something like an old credit card. just find a picture of a real one on the next and use it to make a pattern. if the card sent with the discs isn't latching onto the right parts inside the machine and it matches the pattern, then you're simply not doing it right.

I wouldn't be surprised if I'm just not using it right. I just found some pics that show someone removing the front of the dvd tray to get it to work... I should do that.

However, that still makes me wonder, what can I do about the discs not reading.

hope that helps.
It does, but now I'm all confused... I had the thing working yesterday, tested out some games, all is going good. I try it again today... the discs can't read again!?

I'm starting to wonder if there is just a problem with this ps2 figuring out what it's reading... normal games work fine though. Any ideas?

so as it turns out, I took the thing apart, cleaned it, and it still won't play discs... this is after I found out it wouldn't even play my legit copy of FF12, so then I started drinking.

So, would it make more sense to buy an old ps2 offa ebay, (I have the hdd and network adapter.) or should I just buy a laser, and muck about? I have no clue how to adjust potentiometers.
