1 week old Slim PS2 makes whirring noise

Hi, I only bought my Slim PS2 (PAL SCPH-7703) one week ago and after around 40 minutes of play it begins to make a kind of 'whirring noise' which is very annoying. Normally it operates silently. Please help!

I was thinking of doing that but I just want to test it a bit longer and see if anyone else has this problem. I mean it doesn't make that noise all the time, maybe after around 40 minutes. It is definitely not the normal noise from loading games and if it happens again today I will video tape it and post it to Youtube like other people have done. This is quite frankly ridiulous and I have ordered around 8 games which should be coming soon!

False alarm everyone. Apparently the Slim has a fan too which comes on when the unit is hot enough. That would explain the sudden increase in noise I am hearing. Doh! It would have been nice if Sony mentioned this fact in the manual or when I phoned tech support. There are loads of people complaining about the same annoying sound but apparently it is normal.
