I read about that the other day. I wonder, is it legal to mod the 360 with firmware but not sell pirated games? According to this, even modding the 360 is illegal.

I believe in the state in question the modifying of the console wasn't illegal. It was the distribution the pirated games where he broke the law.

No he was selling back ups for $20 which I find pretty mind blowing. It's always illegal to sell back ups no matter what and he seems like he was doing it on a huge scale. He probably was clearing a few thousand a week with what he was doing.

Yeah he was. I've seen sites where people sold back ups, not for $20 though. I always wondered if someone would eventually get busted for that. Now we all see someone has been.

I never thought people really ever got arrested or even fined for selling back-ups. I mean here in Australia, you can look in the local paper, and people selling them will be advertising their newest games and prices. They leave their phone numbers and even their addresses sometimes, but the police never seem to crack down on them.

I think local enforcement of these laws varies greatly country to country. Look at China. It's almost expected for most people there to have everything pirated.

As for as him regretting it, depends on his punishment. Looks like he has made quite a bit of dollar doing it,just depends how long he will get imprisoned for. 4 or 5 guys over here in the UK got done a few days ago. Sentences ranged from 4 years to community service. Personally I think 4 years is ridicously extreme seen as you can kill someone in a drink drive incident and get less, but lets not get into that issue on here lol
Edit: Just read the whole thing, says he has been doing it for about 6 years. 6 Years at $60 or $20 a pop, with a massive customer base.....
Also, I quote "Hunter said it takes a certain degree of sophistication to modify the consoles", - You gotta be kidding me ha

Why are you so fixated with prison rape? First of all he will not serve time with killers, rapist or any violent offenders. He will most likely spend a year at most in a federal prison where politicians go for embezzlement and be fined, and some type of community service.

I don't think he meant an actual degree, but rather a certain level of computer savviness. I think that's sort of true for flashing a 360.
