Facts
1. I do not own any sort of modchip.
2. I own a slim ps2.
3. I do not own a swap magic.
4. I do not own a gameshark or action replay.
5. I do not have a top loader.
6. I own blank CD-R and DVD+R.

Question
Is there any possible way to make a back up of a ps2 game with what I own/do not own?

no, you have to mod your system in some way in order
to play back ups. But with the information you provided i
expect that you already know that.
Now do the rest of your research, decide to get a good mod chip,
and enjoy.

I would do it very soon as the online sites that carry games
and such for download are quickly becoming less active since it
is about at the end for Xbox and PS2 game releases.
so if you do not make up your mind soon and start getting stuff like
crazy then you will really be out of luck.

Even the retail stores have cut their stock of games in half so
finding and buying them will not be easy.

Best bet may be to join an online club and rent them.

There is only one way to make backups of your games for the PS2, and make them work on the PS2. You NEED a swap magic, or a hdadvance, or a modchip. There is simply no other way.

the truth if you have a DVD burner you Can make all the backup games you want to which is the question asked, you however can not play them on the console you have with what you have.

To the statement:

the mentioned modification methods are the only practical ways, you can buy an authoring burner and make a 1-1 backup of the disc and the console will boot it directly with no modification, but the cost of the burner far exceeds the cost of buying all the games you'd EVER be backing up. not to mentione authoring discs run about 24 bucks each.

Performing the PS2 independence exploit is another option. You need an original PSX game, a USB drive, and Codebreaker/Action Replay Max, however. In any case, you will probably have to spend money in order to mod your PS2 and play backups.

maybe you overlooked the original post, he has a slim console, you can't run a MC exploit on a slim, Sony fixed that.

Yeah, I was about to correct myself on that, but you saved me the trouble :)

EDIT: Actually it seems possible, according to this post: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/337567

i think we've covered it all here, he can make backups, he just can't currently play them with what he has.
