Hi.
I've recently purchased a 160gb hdd and a network adaptor as the laser in the console is nearly dead from years of playing dvd-r's.
From reading guides i know that hdadvance or hdloader is needed to boot from the hdd, but is there not a way i could boot hdloader or hdadvance off the hdd using a sort of exploit like the independance exploit i once heard about?

with a modchip that supports harddrive Dev mode booting or the DMS4 Pro SE with Toxic OS that boots directly to the harddrive.

is there no other way, just havn't got the mondey for a chip at the moment. Would the independence exploit not work at booting a hdloader elf file?

exploits boot from the memory card when triggered via a PSX game in the CD/DVD drive, they can not boot directly from the harddrive and they don't work with slim consoles.
