Do I need to have a mod chip installed to run Evolution x dashboard?

I'm not totally positive on this one, but I've heard of people with Softmodded xbox's having a "different" dashboard then the MS one. So it might actually be possible.

If I try and run a soft mod, is there any way of reverting it back, I don't want to get stuck, and not have it boot

Yes it is very possible to have evox. That's is one of your choices when you first softmod. Yes you can revert it back.

1. yes it has to be modded to run a hacked dashboard like EvoX
2. If you plan to softmod then READ A LOT before you attempt it or you will screw up your Xbox and be buying a new one.
3. Yes you can unmod it, but why would anyone want to?
4. read up on mod chips, you may want to install one of those instead like a solderless type. This gives you room for error that a softmod doesn't
softmod's and modchips do pretty much the exact same thing. The advantages a modchip has over softmodding is that some things are much easier. Like:
replacig the hard drive with a bigger one is a snap
you can use auto installer discs which are great for setting up an xbox with loads of great stuff
If you screw up something down the road the above auto installer disc can reformat or reinstall stuff and get you fixed up
a mod chip can be disabled, a softmod has to be uninstalled
and i am sure a few other things that slipped my mind
